None but that has more to do with Fred S, Dave Bronczek and Matthew Thornton iii splitting hairs as to who was eligible. 5 year mid level desk jockeys in Memphis where eligible, 30 year drivers in Kansas City were not.
The courier function is still essential because someone has to pickup and deliver the packages. Not so with the cubicle-bound desk jockey doing the reports monitoring the report compliance level. Since we are both numerous and essentially defenseless, it was an easy decision to make for them to not offer buyouts to couriers. In their minds, anyone can do the courier job, which is true, but only to a point, and that's where they really blew it. Yes, almost anyone can jump in a truck and deliver packages, but not many can do it efficiently OR to the productivity level FedEx expects and needs to be profitable. This is where DRA was supposed to come-in and save the day, but we've seen how it has failed...miserably.
Now they are hiring as fast as they can to "fix" DRA, and firing the new hires just as fast, or making them quit very quickly, which has the same net result....a big loss of productivity and $$$$$. As more and more employees tune-out, WAD, and stop drinking the Kool-Aid, the problem compounds itself, creating a vicious circle of FAILURE from which there is little chance of escape. Why? Because they don't "get it", and will continue to do that which they do best...make dumb moves and create ridiculous policies that de-motivate employees, reduce customer service, and create a multiplier effect that is paralyzing the Express system.
Maybe it matters little because "Ground is Good". But a dollar lost is still lost, no matter which opco generates the loss. I am enjoying watching "The Fail" immensely. It just keeps getting better. It's like throwing Fred an anvil while he struggles to stay afloat in a tank full of circling sharks.
