And So It Begins...

The problem is that government spends too much, throws money at problems, and I suspect sticky fingers take a cut. What did people ever do before all of these programs? I fully expect Social Security benefits to be cut someday. If there's no money, there's no money.
Aaah......Now we're getting at the heart of the matter. You have deep seated fears about the future of the entitlement programs you will likely need and might need earlier than you would have liked. If not then you would not have brought up the issue of the future security of Social Security. Worries that are well founded. Especially when you consider the fact that right now there are very few people in Congress who have the balls to take on the matter but are solely focused on padding their own pensions their future speaking engagement fees and future lobbyist job openings.

We're not getting at anything. I've been aware for some time it's a real possibility so am working towards negating the reduction. And if need be will go overseas if we can't afford to live here. But right now working towards buying a house in West Virginia. With the house paid for we should manage.

Trump's policies of cutting taxes on corporations made the Social Security and Medicare issues WORSE.His policies of spending more money than the defense department needs or wants made your problem worse. His claim that the defense department was depleted is a lie, but he was told so by his rich buddies who contract for the defense department. And now, he is aching to start a war, just like every repub pres because his buddies in big oil want to charge more for the same product and since they can't unilaterally control demand, starting trouble in the middle east controls supply, Both Bushes knew this, Reagan knew this, and Trump's pals know this. Higher oil prices won't help you. But it is all too common for republican voters to vote against their own interests.

Dmac- obvious you do not have a clue- Social Security and Medicare are taken from payroll taxes and have nothing to do with corporate taxes or spending on any other programs. If anything both programs are in better shape with Trump as more jobs and higher wages equal more payroll taxes

Some of these are leading indicators that the economy is not going so great, except because Trump says the economy is great, we must all believe him.

OK, I'll bite, how did cutting corporate taxes make SS and Medicare worse? And yes, Obama drove the military down to pre-WWII readiness levels.

By the way with fracking the U.S. is now energy independent and a net exporter of oil. But I agree, no new wars unless we or our allies are attacked.

If you were to suffer like that man did ( 20+ years of absolute agony) rest assured not a single contributor to this site is going to feel a moment's worth of compassion for you. Despite your obvious albeit twisted sense of genetic, physical and intellectual superiority you too will die and at an age that will fall somewhere in line with the current life expectancy and along the way you too will consume an awful lot of healthcare. It will be very very expensive and you will be all too happy to accept whatever public funded assistance that may be available in order to stay on the right side of the grass.
You talk brave. Anybody can do that . I just hope that some of us are still around to see if you live brave when the ravages of ageing come calling.

You use so many words but say so little.

Trump's policies of cutting taxes on corporations made the Social Security and Medicare issues WORSE.

This makes no sense. 1) Corporate taxes have no bearing on SS revenues needed to fund SS benefits 2) Overall tax revenue, which is to supplement the shortfall between receipts and outlays, has increased.

You're hopeless.

Sometimes I think you are real slow. Where the money comes from isn't the issue. Trump and Republicans are using the debt as excuses to look at delaying retirement age and reducing benefits under Medicare for some. You are a fool if you can't see that.

Your 'chart' means nothing. A deficit or surplus in a tiny, unpopulated state means nothing. Those 'fiscally' run states have major problems with education levels, infrastructure deterioration, or lack of opportunity.

You're ignorant. You must have ignored all the efforts by republicans to make cuts to those programs citing the debt as the reason. As the debt gets worse, the cries get louder. Not only willfully ignorant, but clearly unable to see the correlations. That is a sign of low IQ. 'Smart' people don't need such simple concepts explained on an almost daily basis.

And our 'energy independence' has brought down prices here too. Right.

Independence is meaningless when oil producers are allowed to take American oil and sell it overseas. The rich get richer, and all the increased production stll leaves us with prices higher under Trump. When Trump was elected, average price was $2.35 and now it is $2.75. Another thank you to Trump.

I notice just how little you have to say because what I spoke to was the dramatic and completely unforeseen turn of events that can transform a person's life into something they never dreamed possible or could have foreseen . This is life. Some of you believe that you lay safe and warm in the corporate bosom and nothing bad will happen. That in turn is a very false sense of security.

Then again it must indeed feel pretty good Dano or you wouldn't been willing to endure the humiliation that goes with having to go crawling back to Fat Freddy.

The only thing you know about smart people is that you're not one of them.

"The debt" associated with with Social Security and Medicare is a deficit caused by the fact that both programs are seeing more and more people collecting benefits and fewer people paying the payroll taxes that are designed to fund them. The problem is actuarial, not one of "DERP TAXCUTS DERP DERP." This defect in the structure of those programs was noticed long before you started licking windows.
