Anyone know why feeders doesn't have maps in the IVIS?

He who laughs last didn't get it.
You bought? Provided?

Most feeder maps we had were just 2( x's) start and finish.....not much detail in-between.
Believe it or not I used my own money. 2005 Hudson map book. Still have it in my locker. A bunch of pages are missing & a bunch are the consistency of Kleenex

Oh?

Ever been a feeder CPU? Thrown onto an unfamiliar job? Full of pickups? On a tight schedule?

Guarantee it would be way more cost effective than standing in dispatch waiting on printed maps...

Now, we don't have IVIS maps because nearly every feeder driver uses his personal phone. Guarantee, we'd get IVIS maps if we stopped that.
What’s a heavy feeder route ? 7 pickups ?

Would you like to lead the insurrection
Already do. I don't use my phone....if UPS calls...it just rings....

IVIS has phone and any cell capabilities...I get text porn messages all day long. All UPS would have to do is add a nav app.

There is a message system...that dispatch never reads from the driver. Just one-way to the driver. They expect you to call on your phone. This saves the company millions. They won't change that.

Yeah....that takes 12 hours....see?

You really have no idea....do you? Many at rush hour 5pm traffic with hard pull and arrival times. And yes, they hold you to it.

Bitching at you on your personal cell phone that YOU pay for....yes....paying to be bitched at...no? Sure do.

Their schedule is not my problem. I take whatever time I need to get there safely, while still being efficient. If I don’t know how to get somewhere, I will ask several senior drivers, and see how their directions line up with each other. If they all give the same directions it’s a safe bet.

Most drivers I talk to are happy to help and explain thoroughly how to get there, where to build/break a set, and danger zones to watch out for.

I have heard good things about Trucker Path app for sleepers, but you have to pay monthly. For brown jobs there’s no need for it because there is only so many places you would go to.

If the conversation can lead to discipline you have the right to request union representation. Of course it never comes to that because all the conversations go like this:

Dispatch: “Why we’re you late?”
Me:
“1. Tractor not fueled or washed
2. Mechanical issue with tractor
3. Mechanical issue with trailer
4. Traffic
5. Road closure
6. Late train
etc., etc… Should I go on?”

Dispatch: “Okay thanks a lot.”

It’s never my fault because I don’t steal time and I only take safe, legal equipment on the road.

We have a huge metro area.....you could be sent ANYWHERE literally....and no.....I don't know where I'm going unless I look at a map and directions....thus....GPS trucker maps....

OH my God you are obtuse.

That 4-5 pickups take 12 hours.....

See, the point was made that we only had a few pickups....implication being "how hard could it be"?
Right. That’s something you don’t know until you do the job and you realize how many steps there are to it. How many things you have to check. A pickup is not just drop and hook. Lots of times you are moving several trailers around, adjusting tandems, sweeping a trailer out yourself because the customer requires it. I could go on and on…
Or not......
I see that as a failure to plan on the part of management. They are supposed to have extra drivers on in case things come up.

Jesus Christ. I’ve been away for a while but it took me a whole page to realize qdg2 stands for quad decade guy. Why the new username, quad? Got blocked by everybody and your drivel wasn’t being seen? Guess I’ll have to block this one too.

Lunch is the best part of the day
Or not......
Anytime there is something obvious that would make the drivers workday better you get all these farts that chime in saying: well we have done without for 100 years. Man up buttercup. Ignore all technological change. Thats a great way to run the company into the ground. Exactly why amazon is eating our lunch.
