I met him at the Rainbow in LA in the early eighties.

A friend of mine was auditioning for Ozzy and Ronnie James Dio.

That was the hangout for musicians.


He has languished in obscurity.

UFO will always be a top 5 band for me.
I have every album (CD, actually I'm all digital now), including those made by Phil Mogg since Michael Schenker moved on to pursue a solo career.
Actually got to see the original band at a local venue in '95, when they reunited for 3 more albums, Walk On Water, Covenant, and Sharks. (Highly recommended if you missed it).

Your friend wasn't Randy Rhoades,Vivian Campbell, or Steve Vai, was it???

Pretty much, here in the States, but was still a pretty big deal in Europe.
His net worth at age 62 is reported to be $6 million.
I have read that he rarely got along with his band-mates, which may have held him back from bigger things.
