Yeah usually takes 5-6 years.

But it's based off your best 3 years. You have prison guards who have made 65k or so their whole career suddenly picking up all of the ot they can for a few years and having retirement based off of 6 figure incomes.
That's pretty sad that a package car driver makes more than a CO. Definitely not the case in California.

Why is that sad? Overpaid babysitters.

CO's in NY start at $36K and get a bump up to $43K after their first year with contractual raises thereafter.
In Cali they make that in the Academy. At the top of their range they make about 80k+ in base salary, not including ot, bonuses, shift differentials or promotions to higher ranks.

My brother-in-law was a CO and while his pay wasn't that great he did get very good benefits. He was able to retire with full disability at age 50 because of "job stress".

Last time I checked babysitters don't have to worry about getting shanked by the kid they were watching.

Our CO's are upset that they are being forced to carry their meals and other personal items in clear plastic bags when they enter and exit the facility. This is a direct result of the laxity that was in place at the time of the prison break that made the national news (and a really bad Lifetime movie).

That's also the result of low pay and incentives.
