For the most part cheaper doesn't = quality. Most reputable shops won't deal with or warranty cheap rebuilt or aftermarket parts.

Because the shops have to guarantee their work. Foolish to cut costs on the parts. I got a 24 month parts and labor warranty. Usually any probably will show up the first month or two but doesn't hurt to have it last longer.

They probably won't charge you the lowest price on parts but will be close to what you would have paid if you got it yourself. Labor is whee they make their money.

Labor covers the mechanic's wage and overhead in a shop. Parts are pure profit after a mark up. The only labor that really makes money is major services. Those services typically take less time than what is charged and they can get them in and out rather quickly compared to a heavy labor intense job such as an engine rebuild or head job.

Most reputable shops do warranty the work, but not on known cheap quality parts. Why would they? If you want to be cheap and take a risk that's your problem.

I've replaced things the shops put in, they are not genuine manufacture parts.

Which is why you need to be careful which shops you go to. I prefer the small independent mechanics. They do range from excellent to clueless though.

Simpler things I do myself. I can take my car to my stepson to have him fix almost anything else but I don't like bothering him if I don't have to.
