It's not a generation thing. It's an upbringing thing.
My sons are 37 and 35. Each have a son and a daughter. Each will ask us advice and ask me help with fixing or building things. Other than that, they fend for themselves. They were raised to be self-sufficient, which too many kids now aren't.
My daughter is 33 and my son is 30. I tell them both that I am here if they need me but I also let them fend for themselves.
My son works in a corporate environment, which I am completely unfamiliar with, so I tell him to call his uncle, who has worked in a similar setting for much of his adult life, for advice.
