Lol. I was serious. I know it’s an old house. I lived in an old house in NC when I was a kid that part of the basement was dirt.

Here too. I'm not sure when they started doing more to finish the basements. Maybe houses built after WW2.

Those roots most likely caused the problem. Did you use copper sulfate to kill off the roots?
The feeder drivers would mostly be using break rooms when everyone else was working or at home so they had little competition for space.
