Maybe the increased minimum wage is part of an overall effort to at least slow the increase in the demand for publicly funded services. There is only so much money to go around for public services and so perhaps California is trying to find a way to boost incomes to above the threshold for eligibility.
My area has been invaded by immigrants who are provided with free housing (hotels) and healthcare.
These are publicly funded services.
In the meantime there are people (citizens) I know with full time jobs who often struggle with job and housing insecurity.
As with my observations at Fedex, and exactly as with observations of my state of California, I know a feces-show when I see it.
