When I was in pkg's a few of the EDD Geeks ask me not to wear my bluetooth in the bldg before start time...something about interference.
Can anyone expand on this and has anyone else been ask the same thing?

Bluetooth and wireless networks use the same frequency range. When both types of devices are operating at the same time, one can cause interference and possibly data loss on the other.

"Anyone know what the bluetooth feature is for?"

Yes. The bluetooth feature can be used for a "finger scanner", so drivers with large deliveries can deliver faster.

I was off last week so today I got to use the new upgrade. I scanned the Package Car Bar Code and I had two bad bar codes I got to use the "Find BC" selection.I wonder if "BCFan" stands for Bar Code Fan. I did the Training thing on my DIAD, (all the answers were "True", the first selection, except for the backlight question, which is the second selection). I did the first Training, it didn't have sound evidently. I didn't figure out the keyboard lighting until I was clocking out, I had trouble reading the DIAD in the dark at 6:30AM when I was doing EAMs. All in all, I think it is a good upgrade for a change.:thumbup1:

With Bluetooth the DIAD now has the ability to talk to either an external data cell phone or a ring scanner. The cell phone is for areas that the DIAD can't communicate to with the internal radios. The ring scanner is for bulk scanning in the preload. Using Bluetooth, including your personal headset, can interfere with uploading and downloading using the wireless network. That is why we are told not to use Bluetooth in the building.

The backlights that are turned off surround the keypads, not in the screen. You can toggle them on/off using Aplha-Alpha, Cycle-Cycle.

I had to use the FindBC twice today. Nice feature for sure.

One thing I think they really need to turn on is the ability to be able to communicate thru the DIAD from driver to driver. The technology is there and is a feature that is present in D4, yet they refuse to turn it on. I understand that they believe drivers would abuse it, but it woudl be a valuable feature if used properly.

Dam, now I am starting to get the feeling that all this will start shaving time off and we'll be expected to work faster. I used the FindBC key 5 times yesterday, but it would only work one time out of the 5. I think that the 4 times it didn't work were packages that were not in EDD, and one time for a package that was transferred as part of a split. We'll see how it goes.

For FindBC (Unscannable Bar codes) to work you have to be in the Package Entry screen before using the FindBC softkey. If you scan another package first for the stop, EDD puts you in this screen then you can use the FindBC softkey for the package that has the bad barcode. If it is a single package the FindBC softkey does not work from the EDD screen (it just beeps.) You have to establish the stop by selecting it from the EDD list, then when in the Package Entry screen use the FindBC softkey.

the other part of the upgrade that they didn't tell anybody about is that the gps feature now works too. management can see everybody in the center on a computer screen now. it also lets them know how many stops you have done and left. i'm not sure the refresh rate but i heard 15 secs. supposedly this is for dispatching oca's to the closest driver but everyone knows the real deal. so next time a sup wants to do an observation all they have to do is call the center and ask the oms where you are.

Yeah.....the training thing is great. It uploads right to your file. Those of you who refused to sign training exercises prior to this have no option now.

Let's face it......for everything Diad 4 offers it was rushed out and had little to no real world testing.

The signature key placement is a joke. If they spent 1 hour with a driver using it, it would never have been put there.

Rolling out the alpha switch WITH out adding the new 1Z search at the same time - another joke.

The battery life? Please......Time to redesign the DIVA's to actually charge the battery.

That being said....I like/love many of the functions. The Sig key is the one glowing problem.

The hardware definitely has some shortcomings which are exposed by running the same program that has run on so many other DIADs. Hopefully the program will get a much needed facelift to better fit the hardware that is running it. That being said, changes are planned to address at least 2 of these issues.

The keylight change in this version of the software is intended to help with the battery life issue. A much more significant improvement to battery life will be available soon.

There are also plans to address the signature key issue, but at this time I don't know the ETA for that fix.

Thank you....there is nothing more frustrating then having to reset the signature function for a customer and give a brief explanation as to what happened......10 to 15 times a day.

Perhaps making you need to double click it? That would eliminate the problem with the pesky customer fingers.

The signature problem is kinda our fault. Our center was one of the first centers to get the DIAD4. The screen didn't flip when you got into signature mode and then you handed the DIAD to the customer facing the way that it faces you, instead of flipped. Of course, being used to the DIAD 3, the customer constantly turned the thing around and then saw that it was backwards and then flipped it back the other way. We all complained about that so they upgraded the DIAD 4 to flip the screen backwards in signature mode so you could hand it to the customer to sign like the old DIAD. We saw the problem with the customer hitting the sign button right away but it was left alone. Either way (the customer hitting the sign button or turning the thing back and forth) is a time waster so what can you do?

Honestly....on DIAD 3, more customers then not turned it around the wrong way so it was right side up.

BTW - UPS methods states we are to hold the DIAD and not hand it to them, thus controlling the interaction and eliminating the famous board flip :)

If we have the Diad we are in control....if they have it well.

Not sure where you heard this info, but I believe you are incorrect.

I couldnt get the find bc to work......I had no other pkgs, at the stop. Is it not possible since we are only going through the training and not yet on PAS?edd?

FindBC only works if you have EDD. EDD downloads all (most) of your packages for the day to your DIAD and that way the DIAD can look up the characters that you enter. If you don't have EDD, the DIAD doesn't know what packages you're supposed to have and therefore can't make any kind of guess as to what barcode you're looking for.

My supervisor told me the same over a year ago.
