your definition of republic didnt match with googles definition. not saying google has the right definition of words or anything, but i use it for terrorism definition.
Google uses a wikctionary, so defintions can be influenced by users, which I suppose is more democratic, but can lead to misunderstandings.
Google's definition of republic is:
"a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch."

What I wrote isn't inconsistent with that, but I failed to emphasize the concept that power is held by the people. Obviously our system has degraded over time.

i dont think america has a very good system of checks and balances.

It was designed specifically to make it difficult to change anything. Jefferson advocated a complete overhaul of the government every generation or so. Lysander Spooner saw the constitution as a contract that people are born into. As such we are all forced into a contractual relationship without our consent, which ought to nullify the constitution all together.

Not here in the US. We are running on all cylinders. Things are smooth over easy.
give me a break.

your debt is out of control and will get much worse once interest rates go out, the government doesnt work anymore, and half the country is poor. mass shooting, new epidemic of middle aged whites committing suicides. banking problems. loss of civil liberties.

yea alot of people think america is screwed especially now that trump got elected.

That's just what the media wants you to believe. The only person who should be really ticked off at Trump is probably his wife. The guy is a horn-dog .

do american presidents have comparable disapproval ratings?

With 75% of France’s citizens disapproving of him, perhaps it is time for Emmanuel Macron to stop lecturing Syria about how it should govern its affairs, pull his troops from Syrian soil and instead focus on addressing the legitimate grievances of his own people. #GiletsJaunes

american socialist politician:

Lee J. Carter‏ @carterforva

Civility means politely accepting the violence imposed upon us by the ruling class. Endless war isn't civil. Union busting isn't civil. Gentrification isn't civil. Starvation wages aren't civil. The corporate agenda isn't civil.

We shouldn't be either.

france has arrested 3000 protestors. the military has been called in "for their protection" of course, just like the NSA and patriot act is for our "protection". the govt has passed all kinds of good reforms to make them stop protesting. the govt now wants a dialogue.

the movement has spread to other EU countries. hopefully north america follows suit. trump like obama is not making the economy better.

Actually the protesters in France are rioting over liberal policies that are making their lives tougher. They aren't advocating for liberal policies. And we had over 300,000 new jobs last month, much more than projected. Trump is making it better and do you know why? Capitalism!
