Google uses a wikctionary, so defintions can be influenced by users, which I suppose is more democratic, but can lead to misunderstandings.your definition of republic didnt match with googles definition. not saying google has the right definition of words or anything, but i use it for terrorism definition.
Google's definition of republic is:
"a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch."
What I wrote isn't inconsistent with that, but I failed to emphasize the concept that power is held by the people. Obviously our system has degraded over time.
i dont think america has a very good system of checks and balances.
It was designed specifically to make it difficult to change anything. Jefferson advocated a complete overhaul of the government every generation or so. Lysander Spooner saw the constitution as a contract that people are born into. As such we are all forced into a contractual relationship without our consent, which ought to nullify the constitution all together.
