In the Chicago area, Gas is right between $2.89-$3.15 a Gal . Highest in the country !

I could never figure out how come Chicago always has one of the highest gas prices in the nation and more toll roads than anywhere else but yet they have the crappiest roads of anywhere you will find. What the H do they do with all that gas tax and toll money?

It costs a lot to buy a senate seat from what I hear.

Here is an interesting way to look at the rising price of gasoline. One has to assume the price of crude oil and the price of gasoline are tied to each other in somewhat real time (in other words the rise in the price of crude causes a rise in the price of gasoline). GDP didn't increase in the last two quarters. why is the price of gasoline going up?

Could it be the value of the dollar is declining? This could be due to our record deficits (past ) as well as projected ones as the current u.s administration is obviously showing all real indications that it will finance its plans with a non stop printing press (more so than other administrations). Bailouts, stimulus packages, and nationalized healthcare costs money. This puts more dollars out in the market place (backed by nothing but the promise that the issuer of bonds that provide the dollars will pay back principal and interest with more us dollars) . This decreases the value of the dollar. It is like having two hookers in one district. Flood the area with 100 more hookers and the value of a hooker goes down,i.e. the price of their services goes down.

Here are links to two interesting graphs:

http://www.prices-oil.org/daily-oil-prices/wti-oil-prices-daily-oil-price-chart-8th-june-2009/

the first one is a graph of oil prices

the second one :http://www.x-rates.com/d/USD/EUR/graph120.html

is a graph of the dollar versus the euro. A rise in the line in the graph indicates that it takes more dollars to buy a given amount of euro.( in other words dollar is declining in value)

Look at the two graphs, and just look at what happens at the beginning of may. They seem to go up in unison. The interpretation of this can be that ,everything else being constant(other factors that affect price of oil) is that a declining dollar (becoming of less value) requires more dollars to buy the same amount of goods (in this case, a barrel of oil) .

Something to think about the next time you fill up.

I know the price of crude is up but why has gas gone up twice within a week??

I commented to my wife that the robber barons are screwing us again and she asked me what was I talking about?

She never heard the term "robber barons" before!

Why do i have to explain everything to her?

I assume you might be replying to my essay, notice somewhere in there I stated "everything else being constant " which is a term economists or mathematicians use so that they can describe the effects of one variable (which in my case was the value of the dollar)

I am sure robber barons play a big part in this as well.

As for explaining stuff to other people, refer them to wikipedia, which I see has a section on robber barons. If they are truly interested, they will go. If they are just idly curious and expect me to chew, digest the food, and spit it out for them, well, I don't do that anymore.

ah yes. royalty owned corporate government. don't you just love it? strange how GWB labeled countries with state owned oil industry as part of the axis of evil. how does royalty hide in front of your face? by stating that everyone has royalty in their heritage. i don't.

I tried to get her to register on BC (ala MechanicsWife) and even came up with a username for her ... HoaxSqueeze.
So far she has declined.
Suggested a couple other names too but she did not like those either.

Maybe if someone came up with a real catchy name she might do it ... any suggestions?
