PVD training started today.

Same union as full time drivers. No benefits except for retirement. Dues deducted from my check.

PVDs do not have a seniority date and thus are not union members. Those dues are just what you have to pay to do the work of union members in a closed shop.

I chose covid last peak(no helper) hoping to do so again this peak. I don't want to talk to someone for 9 hours straight, rather walk the up myself

In 30 years I’ve had 2 helpers that lasted more than a week. They get in the way.

Seattle minimum wage is $16.69 an hour. Most fast food joints are paying closer to $19-20 to get enough people. UPS is paying first year drivers $21.
You are right, they need to pay more to get enough drivers.
