This was for high school. I guarantee these kids have already found the plentiful hardcore porn freely available to them. The critique should be on how the books are taught not their content.

There doesn’t seem to be much to teach from these books. It’s like stuff they stock the library with and it’s teenage smut drama novels most kids probably never even opened. It’s a complete waste of money.

I haven’t read them so I couldn’t speak to their educational value. I won’t take the word of pearl clutching Karens. There can be valuable discussions facilitated by terrible literature, so a little sexy talk doesn’t disqualify a book to me.
Saw some parents reading excerpts from books to a school board in VA tonight that their kids had been assigned. Things like girls going down on other girls, girls sucking d***s, etc. Meanwhile in another location a teacher was saying "To Kill a Mockingbird" is racist. Depicts "white heroism" to black kids assigned to read it.

I have 0 problems with kids reading smut literature but do what I did and take your ass down to half price. Shouldn’t be wasting tax dollars on non-educational bull
when they are constantly crying about being underfunded.Question is why do you think that's appropriate in a school setting? Focus should be on higher learning, not in the gutter. When I was in high school we got one day a month to wear more casual clothes. Have you seen what kids wear today? Every day? And we wonder why so many struggle today.

I haven’t read the books in question, it depends on context and the lesson being taught. A few excerpts chosen for being salacious to provoke an emotional reaction doesn’t sway me. Lots of books have sex scenes, I don’t think we need to shield the poor vulnerable youth from the evils of sex.

Like I said it depends on context and what the lesson is. Smut for the sake of smut is probably inappropriate for high school. A book that has sex scenes is pretty run of the mill.
