Raising the Union retirement age

So cool. We have a guy who fishes on his lunch break

I remember a driver, back when I was a driver, whose route I covered a lot.
He fished every day at lunch and took the day off at least one day a week to fish.
I wonder what old Sidney is doing these days.
Probably fishing.

The real problem isn't the retirement age its the orphaned ex-workers hanging like a millstone around the Teamster pension systems neck. Hopefully something is going to get done about it before the next contract is finalized. If the Teamsters could move those vested workers from long since bankrupted and out of business companies off their books and into the Pension Guarantee Trust Corp, where they belong, pensions for UPS workers could rise dramatically and age wouldn't make a difference.
The PBGC has no responsibility for those orphaned workers so long as the overall pension fund is still solvent. Besides, the PBGC is chronically in the red just like the pension funds. As is the PBGC's ultimate backer, the Federal Government.

Dumping those orphaned workers on the backs of the already overburdened taxpayers won't work in this climate.
