Not completely sure about being all the way in park, it was a uhaul not package car.
Pretty sure parking brake was on, might have not been fully engaged

The fact is the matter is you aren't pretty sure of much. You left the vehicle running and forgot to put it in park with the brake applied. You got off lucky as that uhaul could have ran over a child and you would have been charged. If you are a senior guy you will get your job back with some time off but I hope you learned your lesson.

Just think, had you known that earlier, you could have gotten around those pesky hiring freezes.

Good point.

In this particular case, it was mechanical failure-----the e-brake failed, pkg car rolled across a very busy 4 lane road before crashing in to several new cars at the dealership across the street.

There have been recalls where the person shifts into park, the indicator shows park, but it really is not and rolls.
Could be one of those under recall in the rental...

Runners gonna run. Who the hell cares if you were in the sticks doing 3 splits off satellite routes. Do the damn job the right way and bring it in at 14 with 100 missed. You’re a liability.
