Hire people....we keep saying we want to grow. Yet all we hear is cut!cut!cut!
I'm just going to state the obvious. It's easier to hire p
I don't want his pay cut, if it were to happen. But I can guarantee he wants mine....get back to rubbing you managers hind quarters now, it's almost the weekend!
I'm not speaking on Abbey's character. Frankly I don't like the guy. All I'm saying is taking his salary away is a drop in a bucket compared to operation costs etc. I'm also not suggesting anyone take pay cuts at UPS. All I'm saying is that companies like Amazon are paying their employees far less and they are continuing to grow their logistics. It will become increasingly hard for UPS to compete in certain market segments with operation costs much higher than their competition. That's a simple fact. People can jump down my throat all they want and say I'm a union basher or ass kisser. I'm not. Just stating obvious business and economic principles. If you can provide a service that is almost as good but at a much lower cost, you will win over most of the customers and ultimately outgrow your competition. Now Amazon is a very specific market. Until I see an Amazon driver pick something up at a machine shop and have the box in Thailand the next day, I won't be worried. They can have all that light residential packages.

I work at both ups and amazon and even after 4 years seniority on the preload I will still be making more money at amazon.

And I've only been at amazon for a year

When was the last time you ran residentials? My residential route is crammed full every day with furniture, cases of bottled water, generators, wine chillers, pool chemicals, area rugs, bbq grills and the list goes on and on. And all of it coming from Amazon!

I know. I'm saying they can have all their under 5lb stuff we don't make money on.

And leave us with all of the back-breaking freight?! No thanks, that's what is destroying this job and our bodies.
You want to make money without doing the work. Large heavy boxes make us money. If all we shipped were under 5lb boxes ylwe wouldn't be in business very long.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that UPS has been up to a BUNCH of shady stuff for so long that they see it's about to crash like Enron and nobody has the balls to just admit defeat. It doesn't help that the culture they maintain has weeded out everyone with the backbone and moral compass to even make that a possibility. Why bother with trivial things like employee morale, when you can use the onslaught of litigation suits to constantly cover up revenue numbers every quarter? Insurance company is getting the shaft, but they aren't likely to drop a $60 billion client. Let's be real.
