Union Dues question and corruption in the Union

Just a question what people pay for union dues? Is it a straight 2.5 x hourly wage? Here at 120 we pay more then the other locals I think. I believe it's 2.5 x hourly + $5? Or it may even be 3 x hourly? Either way, I think it's to help pay for the Slawson's booze intake. Not cool 120. Thanks for ripping us off.

Teamsters report on corruption in Local 120 | Teamsters for a Democratic Union

No one forced you to work in a union shop. If you don't like to pay union duse go work for a company that isn't unionized and then see what kind of benefits you get (healthcare, pension, paid holidays, sick time, personal days, etc )

I pay $85 a month and it more than worth it. If I had to pay for the health insurance we get for a family plan it would be well over $85 a week.

You want to see corruption take a look at your senators and congressmen and women.

I don't mind the union dues if they were used for what they are supposed to be used for. Did you read that link? They were using our strike fund to pay for something we get nothing from. Do you think thats right? Go look at the link. And if you find the other 39 pages of stuff against them send me the link please.

I heard about this a little while ago and as unfortunate as it is it is what it is. The international will take over the local and fix the situation. Not all locals are like this.

Not that I'm making any comparisons, but maybe Corporate will take over some centers, and, as unfortunate as it is, it is what it is. They will take over and fix the situation. Not all centers need this, though.

I think you hit the proverbial nail on the head. While I don't need the union for disciplanary protection ( I havn't been in the office in 13 years) they are wonderful at negotiating wages in benefits. Where else in America could we earn what we earn in wages and beneits for pushing carboard?

However, then we have Obamacare. We don't need it, yet the teamsters support him. For what? I can't believe how condesending(sp?) they speak to us in the newsletters about Obama and Elizabeth Warren here in MA being for "the working family" and "helping labor unions" Give me a fing break.
Our newsletter said and I quote "We need to vote for Elizabeth Warren because she has a proven record of supporting working families"

What record? She has never held a public office! thats how stupid the union thinks we are! Our union insulting our collective intelligence.

I support more of the Republican fiscal platform than the Democrat one, but I will never vote for a Republican candidate (with some exceptions). Right wing candidates represent the interests of big business such that OSHA, in my state, has relaxed regulations so that UPS can open doors and operate "staggered start times" (300 trucks leaving within 30 minutes of each other) as acceptable ventilation procedures; no longer does UPS need to operate a ventilation system (to their credit, they finally attempted to fix it). Right wing-appointed judges also stopped the progress of the FedEx Ground lawsuits, saying it was OK for FedEx to treat contractors as employees. I could go on and on...

And I don't know why you're opposed to ObamaCare. Insurance in general is a socialist idea. Health insurance companies have, for many years, denied coverage to persons with cancer, HIV, etc. The US government is already providing heavy subsidies to these patients. While ObamaCare doesn't solve the health insurances injustices within this country (which could never be solved, anyway), it's a start. Perhaps now people with HIV, cancer, etc. can go see the doctor early on and increase their chances of survival, rather than waiting until the diseases have progressed and the government is willing to pay for the expensive care they'll need.

Obamacare will slowly die the cost will kill the program as lot of companies will ditch there healthcare coverage and pay the penalty which is cheaper. Than people will have to go without or get government assist healthcare this going to cost the average person and government more a lot more in the long run.

You name a program the the government has run that isn't losing money. The people that go with out will just need to up there deduction so they get little to no money back at the end of the year as the IRS can't go after you for not paying the penalty congress gave them no authorization to the IRS only collects taxes.

The teamsters support Obama because Rep are anti union.

Sort of off topic, but I think it is absolute extortion to take union dues from the seasonal driver helpers.

Can anyone justify this practice and please explain to me why you think it is an ok practice.

I pay $92 a month. Listen to me carefully, I FEEL THAT WE ARE GETTING A DEAL! I'd easily pay twice that for the stuff we get. My cellphone bill is $112 a month and I get a hell of a lot less for that.

I work in a RTW state and don't always agree with the local, but I chose to be union. They (union) don't share my ideology. They are just as guilty as the race baiters but on a labor sense. Full of fear mongering and deceptions....but, what will I do?
I'll side with boneheads for few more years...then its later gator!

What ? Seasonal Helpers pay due's as well? Never was told this at the interview or orientation..... If that's true then why are the grunts still at that low wage? You'd think it would have gone up a little ..........Or it did and I didn't see the thread

It's quite a shock when the helper gets his first check and $100 is missing.

So your telling me my union due is actually..... Wage x 2.5 +$5 x 4. And this will come out of the first check !??
If i have to pay that much, i want to talk to my union rep. Office won't give me a jacket and we're going to get rain and snow in the next few days.

Listen up fellow teamsters.....we are very very lucky to have our UNION. Get ready for a big fight with UPS in our next contract....also be prepared to strike. Nothin is perfect in life even our Union but the other side is far far worse. Stop whining and wasting energy on calling the union corupt. If you dont like the union get out, its as simple as that. We get one hell of a package deal only having to pay union dues. So insted of calling out the union why dont u call out the company? They are the ones trying to make you pay for your health care not give you raises yearly and tryin to fire you for some cheaper replacement.
