An example of judging before knowing. This doc deals with poor minority parents that ARE involved with the education of their children but unlike many people such as Barack Obama they have no choice but to send their children to schools with tenor do not care teachers that are not teaching their children. Amazing that all of the politicians that support and throw money at the Public school system send thier children to PRIVATE schools--Clinton--Bush --Obama --and the "dance of rhe lemons" goes on and on . THAT is where the problem does lie.
An example of using a small sample slice to damn the entire system. Is that fair? I think my point is far more the norm. And last I heard, Obama was in favor of a school voucher system.

Beck=Crazy. More fear-mongering and bringing-up names from 40 years ago. Ayers has become a respected educator, Hayden was a successful politician. As others have said, absolutely anything that can even be remotely connected with Obama is used to defame him.

I didn't say I watched Beck (I didn't) I had it on TLC watching babies being born.....it was almost 3:00, so I turned it on for the News. The dejavu part was not Beck, but the fact that he talked about what TOS had just brought up here on BC!!!! :smart:Maybe TOS had just watched Beck in their area and thus thought of posting about the Ayers and others.

Trip,

exactly, nothing more than an exaggerated liar. His association alone makes him guilty of nothing more than being a rich white kid who took on a cause to defend minorities. Those members above him conspired to make it worse while he sat back and watched.

Those of you who watch FOX , Beck and Hannity, use the name AYERS to somehow draw a radical parallel to Obama because you hate Obama. As I expected, NOT ONE of you on the right could demonstrate a conviction, a charge, a trial, an arrest or a moment where he was placed in custody for terrorism.

However, BECK always states that Ayers went to prison, then came out and returned to his "communist" ways despite the fact that Ayers never spent a day in prison.

NO one believes Ayers is a hero, Ayers is the republican boogey man, a creation of distortion and manipulation of facts. Thats all the republicans have to offer, BOOGEYMEN.

Becks 60 minutes worth of rants of communists, socialists and overthrows of governments isnt worth the time it takes to say it, but it serves a purpose, and that purpose is to keep those of you on the right "connected" to the message. That message may be complete B.S., but its your message nonetheless.

Bombarding FOX viewers with repetitious nonsense keeps your focus on things you cant prove, like Ayers.

Maybe, you all learned a lesson with Bill Ayers, he's nothing more than an exaggeration that the right wing used to make you believe you have it right. But you dont.

Case Closed.

Peace.
Geeez, where did I even imply anything about his connections with the weather underground. The fact is that was never mentioned in this thread until YOU brought it up. Another fact is he is without doubt an ultral liberal, and that was the point I was making. You sure go out of your way to defend someone who you claim is NO ONES HERO. The connection between Bill and Rick and 0bama is enough for me to dismiss Rick Ayers' " hatchet job on the documentary " Waiting for Superman". I haven't watched this film yet, I doubt you have either. I may see the film with skepticism just as I would with ANY documentary. You on the other hand will choose to follow the leader right behind another ultral liberal.
BTW, your ranting about Beck is really funny and hypocritical. Have you forgotten your lip lock on Keith 0 ? You are no different from what you throw at conservatives.

Trip,

It was YOU that introduced Bill Ayers to the conversation. This is what you said:

"Well this piece just has to be gospel, coming from an ultra-liberal "educator" in an ultra-liberal rag...the Huffington Post. Is this Rick Ayers the brother of Bill Ayers, 0's buddy?
My point is not that what he says isn't correct or that he isn't due his opinion, just pointing out that it may be as biased as he says the film is.
I do have to wonder what he thought about Micheal Moore's documentaries. Since he used the phrase " inconvenient truth"

I posted a quote from a couple of scholars, and you went political with it by associating BILL AYERS to the conversation as to diminish the point of the authors despite their own qualified opinions.

Your use of Bill Ayers was nothing more than a backdoor attempt of using the rhetoric pumped out about Ayers by fox news channel to deflect criticism about the lame movie discussed on this topic.

I simply took you to task and asked that you justify the negative association about Bill Ayers and not one of you could produce a single fact and one produced nothing more than supposition.

You used the smear tactics on Bill Ayers to smear his brothers opinion on the movie. Its that simple.

There are millions of liberals in this country, so you must hate millions of people, or you simply hate the liberals you are told to hate. Political affiliations have extremes on both sides, and each is dangerous.

The right wing extremist are just as nuts as you believe the ultra left extremists are.

As for Keith Obermann, I found him funny but not informing. He paid the price for his mistakes, something FOX does not do with its morons on air.

If people only understood they are saying what they are told and believing what they are told without doing any fact checking, we wouldnt have so many arguements on this site.

I believe I have demonstrated that Bill Ayers has done nothing wrong, has no criminal record of terrorism, has no convictions for bomb making, bomb planning or terrorist acts against the United States.

You failed at trying to connect him as a terrorist to Obama and his brother Rick in order to discredit Rick Ayers opinion on the movie.

Rick Ayers is a qualified person to comment on the movie:

Rick Ayers is an Adjunct Professor in education at University of San Francisco and teaches at UC Berkeley. He is a PhD candidate in the Language, Literacy, and Culture program at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Education. He received his Masters in Education at Mills College (1997) and taught at Berkeley High School from 1995 to 2006. He has worked as a Master Teacher for KQED Education Department, on the Teacher Advisory Board for Youth Speaks, as a teacher trainer for the Bay Area Writing Project, as a fellow at the Institute on Media and American Democracy, Harvard University, and as a core team member of the Diversity Project.

Rick is co-editor of the series Between Teacher and Text (Teachers College Press) and of the book Zero Tolerance: Resisting the drive for punishment, A handbook for parents, students, educators and citizens (2001, New Press). He is co-author (with Amy Crawford) of Great Books for High School Kids: A Teacher’s Guide to Books That Can Change Teens’ Lives (2004, Beacon Press), author of Studs Terkel’s Working, a Teaching Guide (2000, New Press) and co-creator (with students) of the Berkeley High Slang Dictionary (self published 2000, North Atlantic Book published, 2003.) He is the author of numerous articles including “Both Sides of the Mic: Community Literacies in the Age of Hip Hop” in The Handbook of Research on Teaching Literacy through the Communicative and Visual Arts, “La Silent, What is To Be Done? Profile of a Chicana student in trouble,” in Democracy and Education, blogs on Huffingtonpost.com, and writes book reviews in the San Francisco Chronicle and Teachers College Record.

You reject his opinion because FOX news tells you his brother is an ultra liberal?

bbsam,
????--small sample ??? If you want to intelligently comment on "Waiting for Superman" -Then take the time and watch it. If you think the science and reading scores reviewed in the documentary that covered the entire United States is a "small sample " ???

You have not heard too well -Obama was very interested in the charter schools and the voucher system while he was running for President. Obama told Hillary Clinton during a debate that the Charter Schools in Washington D.C. were showing very positive test results. The first week he was in office after a visit from the Teachers Union the Washington D.C. school mainly caring for very poor minority children was closed !!! Obama and Michelle then put THEIR children in a Private school !!!

Peace.
You couldn't be more full of it, if you had lunch in a port-a-potty.
I reject his opinions because I know for a fact he and his brother are ultra liberals, and I don't take ultral liberals word for anything. Most, if they can't prove their point on any given subject twist what others had said or done and if that doesn't work they down right lie. That's an attribute you often pass off on any conservative.
The only thing true in this post is possibly the copy and paste you entered to show Rick Ayers was "qualified" to voice an opinion of the film. Everything else is a very weak attempt to spin what was said into a witch hunt.
My one and only point in connecting Rick Ayers to Bill Ayers and to 0bama, was to say they are all ultral liberal. That's it, no nefarious undertones or hidden agenda. If you can't accept that for the truth it is, that is your problem not mine. I did not fail at connecting BA as a terrorist because I never said he was a terrorist. So maybe you need to check your own truth meter before you look at mine.

Oh and uh, I don't know if Fox news ever even ran a piece on Rick Ayers, do you know of one?

Yes small sample. Your assertion is that the school test scores are indicative of the problems outlined in "Superman". Not so. What would have to happen for this to be true would be for those exact same conditions to be in each and every low testing school. More likely the problems stem from the home.

I am not sure how the DC teacher's union and the school the President's kids go to is pertinent to this. That a school closes doesn't indicate what Obama thinks about voucher systems. Even that vouchers are not prevalent does not mean that Obama does not think that they would be a good idea. We don't elect kings.

Brett,

do we execute people in this country without a trial? do we put to death people who use the first amendments protection of free speech without self incrimination? If he confessed to a crime Brett, how come he was NEVER charged or put on trial for those confessions? Hmmmmmmm?

Reality Brett, is on my side.

Peace.

Do you need a government official to tell you its ok to piss in the morning? The man confessed, and should be either rotting in a jail cell or 6 feet underground. The only reason he isn't is due bad evidence collection by the prosecutor. His case is a stark example of the imperfections in our justice system.

Also Obama when he became President ----nixed the voucher system --What planet are you on ??? That is why the DC charter school closed --OBAMA caved to the union lobby !!!!

Here it is, Island. It is your assertion that these "poor minority parents are involved with the education of their children". Ok. But when you speak of nation wide test scores, you are speaking of a much larger set, not only the kids depictied in the documentary. When colleges and universities report that a substantial portion of the incoming freshmen are ill-prepared to start high-school let alone college, the problem is bigger than what happens with the "poor minority parents". It's not a "poor minority parents" problem, but that may factor into it. So if the set of students not learning what they need to learn is far larger than the "poor minority parents" and their kids, then it only stands to reason that there are other factors contributing. So while you want to insist that "it must be Obama's fault" because of what this documentary says, I still believe the problems with educating children largely center in the home whether it is in the form of child abuse, divorce, too much time on the computer, x-box, TV, etc. these things all weigh heavily on education. Note that nothing I have mentioned is unique to "poor minority parents" and none of them are going to be alleviated by charter schools. So what was the pupose of the documentary anyway? Was it to address the problem or to slam Obama? Maybe Obama did cave to the teacher's union. He did it on allowing the Bush tax cuts to continue. But that is not to say that he's not in favor of charter schools any more it is to say that he loves the Bush tax cuts. He's the same as every president we've ever had. He comes to office with a certain ideology and soon finds himself faced with political reality. If you can't see that, I have to wonder, what planet are you from????

Obama was going to eliminate the power of lobbies--to funny to comment on
Obama was going to have transparency----Everything behind closed doors
Obama claimed Bush tax cuts major problem --Bush tax cuts in place
Obama claimed civil trials for 911--back to Bush Tribunals
Obama supported charter schools --before he destroyed them.
Obama was going to end wars--we now have three.
Obama was going to keep unemployment under 8% - not happening.
Obama has G.E. Ceo Jeff I. key job creator---G.E. no jobs-no tax paid
Obama was going to save us with alter nrg plan --- Go fill up your car.
Obama was going to end the housing crisis --verge of next bubble -fannie +fred
Obama and Dems could not make a budget for 11--Republicans did
Obama has no idea how to bring fiscal respons--Ryan has detailed plan
Obama asks all to be civil in communication -Forgot to tell unions and Dems
Obama -----Wait I do not want to waste my Sunday --Maybe I can get a round of Golf in when Obama is finished.
