The integration into one additive manufacturing and logistics solution this summer will make 3D printing accessible to more potential users, enabling them to realize the convenience and cost-savings this technology offers.

CSI Announces Election of UPS’s Laura Lane to CSI Board Chairman

The Coalition of Services Industries (CSI) announced today that Laura Lane, UPS President of Global Public Affairs, has been elected Chairman of CSI’s Board of Directors.

“I look forward to working alongside new CSI President Christine Bliss as she brings new energy and ideas to our shared mission of promoting services liberalization,” said Lane. “We will continue to work with the Administration, Congress and Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) partners to ensure we maximize the agreement’s commercial benefits and enable Congressional approval of TPP. We also aim to achieve a high-standard agreement in the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) as well as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations. These trade deals are important opportunities for us to open new markets to U.S. services, a segment in which America is highly competitive.”

How Important Is E-Commerce to UPS and FedEx? – Motley Fool

Will e-commerce dictate the future of these delivery companies?

E-commerce wasn’t just briefly mentioned in UPS’ most recent quarterly report — it was the primary reason the company reported increased sales. CEO and Director David Abney noted during the conference call that “consumer spending remains the primary catalyst for growth in the economy, and e-commerce sales have again exceeded the expectations.” Not only is e-commerce increasing sales, but UPS also attributed its growing margins and increased U.S. profit directly to the trend. It’s proven especially important for the company’s B2C (business-to-consumer) shipments, but B2B (business-to-business) has also benefited.

But the news isn’t all good.

UPS gets incentives for $70 million Round Rock expansion – Austin Business Journal

United Parcel Service Inc. plans to build a new $70 million distribution facility in Round Rock after city leaders approved an incentive package to lure the shipper.

In order to receive those incentives, UPS is required to spend $70 million to buy the land, build the facility and hire the equivalent of 314 full-time workers.

New building expands pickup and delivery operations around Austin.

UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced the construction of a new package distribution facility in the Austin area. The package processing facility will include automated sorting systems and will house approximately 300 UPS® delivery vehicles. The new building fortifies UPS’s integrated delivery network in central Texas and addresses growing customer needs across a variety of industries. UPS will invest more than $70 million on the project.
