UPS CEO-elect speaks out for free trade agreements – Albany Business Review

Global trade is becoming more essential to the economic viability to the United States and its companies, which is why UPS is strongly supporting two pending free trade agreements, the incoming CEO of United Parcel Service Inc. Dave Abney said Monday.

“One of our growing concerns is the protectionism that is surfacing throughout the world,” Abney said. “More and more of the economic activity is going to be occurring somewhere else (outside the United States). We should really be spreading that message. We understand that trade is a vital economic engine.”

UPS Enhances U.S. Field Stocking Location (FSL) Network to Support Medical Device Industry

UPS today announced it has developed a healthcare-compliant network of Field Stocking Locations (FSLs) to reduce delivery time of medical device shipments and enhance inventory visibility. FSLs are strategically-located facilities designed to support time-sensitive distribution and efficient warehousing of products. UPS’s FSL network helps companies get products to their customers faster while better managing inventory costs, regulatory compliance and end-to-end visibility.

In the U.S., 36 healthcare-capable FSL sites will provide medical device manufacturers access to over 80 percent of U.S. hospital beds within four hours. These facilities will operate under the guidance of UPS’s industry-leading quality assurance and compliance program, feature temperature-controlled or monitored environments and offer same-day delivery services. These features enable medical device manufacturers and their field sales representatives to provide best-in-class service to their customers and better manage their inventories to gain efficiencies.

United Parcel Service handles a lot of freight at its large Louisville air hub — and more cargo is on the horizon – Progressive Railroading

When customers seek to tap UPS Supply Chain Solutions’ services and UPS’ network relationships to gain sustainability benefits or generate an economic return, they many times also desire transportation reliability that’s comparable with their current mode of choice, says Buenker. There are many “win-win-win solutions” for UPS, its customers and carriers that lead to lower costs, improved service and better-utilization results, he says.

“While many of our customers engage in their own transportation solutions directly with carriers, the benefit of any expansion in a market that is part of our hub network creates logistics clusters that draw those efficiencies for many transportation modes,” says Buenker.

And rail is often a mode in play due to its efficiencies — benefits that could send more UPS-generated freight in rail’s direction if the shipper’s reliability needs are met.
