22.3 jobs are supposedly protected, but the language in my opinion is really weak. Several years ago I had a 22.3 job that was eliminated by the company. I asked the business agent how they can just eliminate the position, and he said they can just move the job somewhere and reassign it. I’m still not sure if the company has had any accountability for maintaining the number of 22.3 jobs that were supposed to be created in the past contracts.
Seeing as how the language allows for 22.4 positions to be created in lieu of 22.3 positions, you better believe they won't create another 22.3 position ever again...they'll just go to extreme lengths to avoid creating them in hubs where there are no weekend operations.
