Perhaps.

He can absolutely shuttle packages under 21. He just can't do it in a UPS vehicle.

Did he get compensated for mileage? When I was a 22.3, occasionally I would deliver air (and ground) in my truck. I forget what it was, but I had to enter a number in the DIAD that indicated it was not a company vehicle. Did the kid do this?

Edit: already discussed.

The Union knows.
I'm not one to fire back like I know it all or anything, I don't. But it does seem weird that we're used for this purpose without any different job classification. What usually happens is a Sup will come around and ask people if they want to run the late air and a few will stay and say yes (me) then after it comes our center manager decides who takes what to who and writes down which packages goes to which truck - leaving us to call, use our own gps, and drive. I'm not gonna act like I never do that outside of work, but being encouraged to do so in the workplace is odd and not very safe to me.

No I did not get compensated nor did I even touch a DIAD. My car was literally filled with packages and I only got a piece of paper with lets say 4 trucks and the PAL #s of the packages that go with each truck. For everything else I was on my own.

Couldn't tell you what the deal is there
Figured. That's why I was bothered in this situation in the first place. I was loaded up to the brim with boxes, but PVDs would get paid base more than my overtime and get mile compensation while holding the same amount of package mass; the only difference being they have someone sign their phone. That really ticked me off.
