I made the mistake once of telling them I needed a day. Never again will that happen.

We get 8 option days.. no sick days.
Practice is call in 1hr before start time... state option 3 and that's that. It's up to managment to figure out staffing.
The new guys get talked out of it, end up coming on.... I tell them option 3.... see u tomorrow.... actually I got tired of calling in and getting harassed... I. Now text the 3 ors and the dispatch sup.

We always tell the young guys in our building if they really really need a day off never ask for it, never let them know you need it. Just call in sick that morning and do what you need to do.
