Reince Priebus

Last evening we are informed of the fact that thanks to his high level connections former RNC chairman and Trump chief of staff Reince Priebus age 46 is joining the Navy!

After spending just two weeks at Newport he will leave a Commissioned US Naval Reserve Officer!

This brings us to the following questions:

1. How many taxpayer funded pensions does he think he needs?
2. Could he have possibly grown tired of buying his own health insurance and found the
the prospect of free VA healthcare attractive?
3. Could these prospects be responsible for his newly found sense of patriotism and
inspired him to join up with the fighting bureaucrats and administrators at the
Pentagon?

4. To those of you who chastise and condemn those you believe are gaming the welfare
system..... what do you call this? What makes what he's doing any more honorable?

Do we really have to ascribe political or self-serving motives as Reince’s reasons for joining the US Naval Reserve? He seems to already be doing pretty well at his current day job. Don’t think he needs to do it for an extra pension or insurance benefits.

I’m not a fan of the Republicans or Priebus, but respect his decision to serve later rather than never. And that General Mattis wrote a letter of recommendation that he be able to do so.

Then why doesn't he sign up for combat training? No he didn't want to start at the bottom as an enlisted man. Better yet if he wanted to serve his country did he apply to the naval academy? Of course not. He wants to run for office and to improve his chances he uses his connections to gain a reserve commission just so he can say that he's veteran. But oh no, he'll never spend a single moment in actual combat or even a live fire exercise.

You tell me why at age 46 with no prior military service did this guy suddenly want to join the armed forces? What was the motive? He could have joined 28 years ago if he so chose. He used his connections to obtain a officer's commission while being assured of being as far out of harm's way as anybody could get . So just who's the naive one is this case?

But why? Personal advancement that's why. But the kid from the low income single family household who enlists because it was the only thing he had going for him ? He's the one who can do the fighting and dying The Reince Prebus's aren't going to do that. Those types of military officers (if you want you call them that) won't spend a single day in combat fatigues or have to dodge a single round with their name on it.

Yeah?
I realized this when I was in my teens ... some 45 years ago.

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer "More! More! More!"

People can have serious :censored2: going on at different points in their lives. Or have different ideas of what they'd like to do at different times. Reince still has about 20 years to go until retirement age. And joining the Navy at 46 to serve one's country sounds like a far more honorable way to handle a mid-life crisis than going out and buying oneself a sports car.

Are all military officers who were directly commissioned doing so to be "as far out of harm's way as anybody could get"? Do you really think that little of them?

Exactly. Get his time in the military and get that pension. A navy admiral was quoted by a leading weekly publication saying. "The Pentagon is becoming a pension fund manager that kills a terrorist every now and then". Furthermore, how could he possibly be made fit for any kind of combat environment? He's going to be an officer remember? Isn't that what they're there for?

You know Reince’s net worth is estimated to be over $3 million, don’t you? Works for a big law firm. He’s likely not in it for a Navy pension hes starting on at age 46.
