Spreading the wealth....

Did I strike a nerve that led you to launch that diatribe? Ad hominem attacks? How very unbecoming.

I wrote that before I had my coffee! However I still stand by my comment!
My concern with what I see happening is that we will move so far to the left as a country that we will never get back to the middle. It will cost us our position on the world front.

There needs to be a balance in government and what I see happening is the legislative - executive and judiciary branches are and will be even further to the left side of left.

This is not healthy for our country.

what's funny (to me) is that I was thinking just yesterday that if Obama is elected I am going to go on and retire early and take whatever penalties. Then I will rely on the big O to redistribute the wealth toward me. I should have a pretty cushy life from now on.

That is not a bad idea! Maybe I can go on food stamps and collect a welfare check!

You might think of relocating down to New Orleans. You will get even quicker assistance down there. I might do that too!

We might as well ride the wave!!!

PROPS!!!

Hey Passerby - You are now working for me!!! Make sure you pay your taxes!

I need the free ride!

Good idea, except I can't live in NO....the humidity is bad for my natural curly hair.

So all in all, I reckon I gotta keep workin'...as you allude to...millions on welfare are depending on me...and you...and all us poor working slobs. And, the big "0" will see to it that it stays that way.

You have no choice to be a conservative now that Bush Tanked the Economy!

And so it starts - BO will say the same thing for as long as it has legs! No responsibility will be taken. Just like you he will point the finger to the Republicans and claim that his hands are tied. Bush got him into this mess.

This IS the mark of a true leader like BO. Wah! Wah! Wah!

It won't matter that he has a democratic congress right at his side.

Look at Chicago - his home town - There is not a Republican amongst them and hasn't been for a long time! The budget is in the tank - corruption abounds and all the Dems are pointing fingers at each other!!!! What a joke!
This is what is going to happen to the US if the liberals get into office. Earmarks and pork barrel economics will be rampant. There will be no crossing over to the other side. It is not the way the Dems or Obama work.

Meanwhile back in Chicago.....
Now BO is going to have a big shindig in Grant Park and the city can't even afford to pay for it! Chicagoans are up in arms! Many dems are talking about switching sides! BO is going to have to foot the bill.

OH! You won't hear about this because of the liberal left media. My relatives live there and I am getting an ear full! and some are (scratch that) were O'bummer supporters.

Obama Explains 'Spread the Wealth' Comment

By Mark Impomeni

Filed Under:eBarack Obama, Economy, 2008 President, Taxes

At a press conference in Virginia today, Sen. Barack Obama tried to explain what he really meant when he told Joe Wurzelbacher, the now famous "Joe the Plumber," that Obama's tax plan was designed to, "spread the wealth around."

Obama now says that he was not implying that he wanted to spread the wealth around when he said he wanted to "spread the wealth around." Obama says that he meant to say "spread the opportunity."
"The simple point I was making was that even assuming he's at a point that he wants to buy a business that he hopes will generate more than $250,000, the point I was making was that ten years ago or five years ago or even a year ago when he was making a lot less than that, he was having a tough time. ... We don't mind people getting enormously wealthy because of their skills and their talents and their drive. But we always want to make sure that the playing field is such where everybody who's got a good idea has a chance to succeed. Everybody's got a chance to get financing. Everybody who works hard is able to raise their family. Everybody has an opportunity if they act responsibly to send their kids to college and retire with dignity and respect. And in that sense, that does involve us spreading around opportunity."
But the explanation is far more confusing than the original statement. When Obama encountered Wurzelbacher, he did mention opportunity for those "behind you" economically. But Wurzelbacher's question was about Obama's plan to raise taxes on families and small businesses that make more than $250,000 per year. It was not a question about opportunity. It was about money. And clearly, Sen. Obama told Wurzelbacher that he was going to take more money from his business, so that others could have more opportunity.
"I just want you to be clear – it's not that I want to punish your success – I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you – that they've got a chance at success too.

"My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody. If you've got a plumbing business, you're gonna be better off if you've got a whole bunch of customers who can afford to hire you, and right now everybody's so pinched that business is bad for everybody and I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
Left unanswered is how raising taxes on small business makes the economy any better. Tax increases kill jobs. And, increasing taxes causes businesses and individuals to make decisions that expose them to less tax liability, leading to decreasing revenues to the Treasury.

Since nobody wins when the government imposes heavy tax burdens, it remains a mystery as to just where all the "opportunity" Sen. Obama wants to spread around is going to come from.

Dear President Obama,

Calculating my taxes I figure I owe you approximately 15,000 dollars this year.

I won't be sending you that money. Instead I'm going to give it to my cousin Ed.

Cousin Ed has always wanted to buy a Harley to ride on. Cousin Ed can get one on sale for approximately 15k.

buying him that harley will I believe incorporate your philosophy of wealth up.

Cousin Ed buying that Harley will keep people employed at the Harley Plant. The sales taxes he pays will keep people employed in their otherwise worthless state jobs.

Buying gasoline for his harley every other week will hopefully help those working the oil industry.

Riding his harley through the toll facilities will hopefully keep the toll employees and state roads employees employed.

His spitting chewing tabacco on the streets he rides down will keep the street sweepers busy.

Monthly and yearly maintenance on his bike will keep the mechanics employed.

So as you can see my tax dollars can do Cousin Ed a whole lot more good then the government.

He can buy a Schwin Bike and save on the Gas riding on a bike path or sidewalk. Green baby.....Gas supply will increase so Companys Like UPS can prosper once again with the help of cheaper Fuel costs.....Oh yes, How about the Airlines too tie, maybe they can stay in business!

Maybe the toll booth will shut their windows down tie from lack of Harleys. His health will improve and maybe he won't tap into Medicare from chewing tobacco....

Sorrry Cousin Ed!

There will be lots of opportunities for Ed. He probably will hire a better CPA to find more Loop holes to avoid paying anything!

Go Republicons! Last but not least I am tired of the NOISE!

Joe the Plumber and now Ed the Harley guy!

Exxon Mobil posts biggest US quarterly profit ever
Thursday October 30, 12:23 pm ET
By John Porretto, AP Business Writer Exxon Mobil shatters own record for largest profit from operations by a US corporation

HOUSTON (AP) -- Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's largest publicly traded oil company, reported income Thursday that shattered its own record for the biggest profit from operations by a U.S. corporation, earning $14.83 billion in the third quarter.
Yet numbers contained within the company's most recent financial report revealed production numbers that continue to sag, and shares slipped 3 percent in midday trading.
The Irving, Texas-based company has reported unprecedented back-to-back quarters, the end of the most recent coinciding with a rapid plunge in crude prices. Benchmark oil prices fell another $2.91 to $64.59 Thursday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, about 56 percent off record highs in July.
Exxon said net income jumped nearly 58 percent to $2.86 a share in the July-September period. That compares with $9.41 billion, or $1.70 a share, a year ago.
The previous record for U.S. corporate profit was set in the last quarter, when Exxon Mobil earned $11.68 billion.
Revenue rose 35 percent to $137.7 billion.
On average, analysts expected the company to earn $2.39 per share in the latest quarter on revenue of $131.4 billion.
Exxon Mobil's results got a boost of $1.62 billion in the most-recent quarter from the sale of a natural gas transportation business in Germany. It also took a special, after-tax charge of $170 million for a punitive damages award related to the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill.
Excluding those items, third-quarter earnings amounted to $13.38 billion -- nearly 15 percent above its previous profit record from the second quarter.
As expected, Exxon Mobil reaped massive earnings from its exploration and production, or upstream, arm, where net income rose 48 percent to $9.35 billion. Higher oil and natural gas prices propelled results, even though production was down from the third quarter a year ago.
Oil producers are coming off a quarter during which crude prices reached an all-time high of $147.27 -- and their profits have reflected it.
Royal Dutch Shell PLC, Europe's largest oil company, said Thursday its third-quarter net profit jumped 22 percent from a year ago, also despite falling production.
Crude prices have tumbled from summer highs, and the global economic malaise has raised questions about energy demand at least into 2009.
Some companies, especially smaller producers, are scaling back spending on new exploration and production projects because of the uncertainty, though analysts say that its less likely to happen at the well-heeled giants like Exxon Mobil.
"Our integrated business portfolio, strong operational performance and financial discipline continued to allow us to capture the benefits of the commodity price environment," Exxon Mobil investor relations chief David Rosenthal said on a call with analysts. "Despite recent volatility in the financial, commodity and credit markets, the fundamentals of Exxon Mobil's business remain strong."
A not-so-bright note was Exxon's output, which once again was below year-ago levels.
The company, which produces 3 percent of the world's oil, said production on an oil-equivalent basis was down 8 percent from a year ago -- a concern given it generates more than two-thirds of its earnings from oil and gas production.
Exxon cited disruptions caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike, production-sharing contracts and increased maintenance activity. It said damage repairs and lower volumes from the storms is expected to reduce fourth-quarter earnings by about $500 million.
Earnings at Exxon Mobil's refining and marketing unit were $3.01 billion, up 50 percent from a year ago. Exxon saw margins improve on refined products, largely because of the drop in crude as the quarter progressed.
The company said it expects to spend about $25 billion on capital projects this year -- the lower end of previous guidance of $25 billion to $30 billion.
Exxon Mobil said it bought 109 million shares of its common stock in the quarter at a cost of $8.7 billion. Roughly $8 billion of that amount was dedicated to reducing the number of shares outstanding; the balance was used to offset shares issued as part of the company's benefit plans.
Setting U.S. profit records has become commonplace for the oil giant.
In fact, if one-time gains like bankruptcy settlements and spinoffs are stripped away from other companies, Exxon Mobil owns the record for the top 10 most-profitable quarters for a U.S. company, as well as the largest annual profit.
United Airlines' UAL Corp. reported first-quarter profit of $22.9 billion in 2006, but that reflected a bankruptcy settlement, not true profit. The airline would have posted a $306 million loss if those gains were stripped out. Company shares fell $2.28 to $72.37 in midday trading. Their 52-week range is $56.51 to
