Strike in Chicago?

Know one is denying that our contract sucks. Hoffa has a real good chance of not getting elected again for "forcing" this first proposal on us.

The issue about the 10 cents is after reading 15 threads on the proposed strike, and the long line of posts saying they deserve more money than the rest of us.

SOLIDARITY?????

Now I hate the Cubs more !!

HAHAHAHAHAHAH good job 710/705!

Package,
In this case it would having lung cancer and expecting the whole world to come to a stop.

The fact that 710 got theirs settled with quiet professionalism shows that your problem is the team you have negotiating for you. That should be your problem and not our problem.

The "Capt" spoke of the problems they have in chicago. If you guys walk there is a good chance many customers will leave you. There is a chance that UPS will decide they have too many eggs in your basket. Whatever your conditions now what you come back to could very well be a lot worse.

You guys need to tell your leaders to stop playing games and get it done like 710 did.

We have lost customers not because of what the union has done. We have lost customers since you the management had to raise prices! Aren't we saving money on gas by making right turns. We should have lower prices then the rest of the shipping industry! We are just slaves of the company trying to get the job done right but instead you shove the packages down our throats and expect us to keep up with the flow. Loading 400 an hour get real! 1200 an hour for sorting! That's outrageous! Start times at 5:45 to 6pm with volume close to 200K and they expect us to get down at 8:50! Its not going to happen. Management at my place blows! They don't know how do anything right. Its Management fault that we have more damages each and every day. So its more Management then my fault that :censored2::censored2::censored2::censored2: gets :censored2::censored2::censored2::censored2:ed up! You guys expect us to scan every package and finish on time! Then you expect sorters to come down and load when some of us haven't loaded in 2 years and do 400 packages an hour! Complete BS!!!! [/rant]

You have bills to pay correct?
so does UPS thats why our rates are higher, plus we supply better service to those customers.
How can it be managements fault for damages/misloads when theyre not to touch packages?

I didn't say anything about misloads! Damages i did! Yeah my management at my place still touch packages and we have filed so many grievances that they still touch the packages! Management is the one that plans when we start and when is down time. Not the union workers. We just do our job to the best of our ability! Now when you have the unloaders busting there asses since sups are yelling at them to move faster so we can just :censored2::censored2::censored2::censored2: over the building. That isn't smart management. If we go at a nice steady pace and start at 5pm every day and i'm sure we can get down at 8:50 each day! Plus have less damages and less jams!

Btw misloads will always happen til humans become to fat and lazy when we finally put machines to load for us!

I am proud of my locals negotiaing efforts, while ashamed of the rest of the country.

Here is a new article to read: http://socialistworker.org/2008/07/30/strike-vote-chicago-ups

I think the problem is that the UPS negotiating team is panicing because 705 is putting up a strong fight for a progressive contract rather than being pushed around. National screwed us over big time, that is why we are taking matters into our own hands. I'm confident the hard nosed aproach management is taking will soften up once we live up to our words, as in the past.

I'm sure as a manager you are aware that Chicago is the transportation heart of the country whilist being one of the strongest union areas in the country. UPS will only be able to divert packages for so long until they realise it will be cheaper to pay us fairly. CACH has it's own railyard, and trains save UPS tons of money.

Yes, we may be shooting ourselves in the foot but a strike is meant to inflict financial loss to the company. The financial loss to the company will be much higher than to members of local 705 because we only see a small fraction of the revenue we generate in our paychecks.:happy2:

hey upstatenyupser, I rather have my union fight for better wages here. We had the highest gas prices all year long too! Also i'm tired of my damn bosses working all the damn time and having to file grievances. I would hope we get 10 times pay if a sup or manager works! Addison hub is the worst hub i think there is. I would hope for a dollar rise also and cola! I'm sorry if you union doesn't know how to give a good fight a good contact and had to sign the national agreemnt one. Personally i think it is bad you have to give up your cola and all. Because here in chicago, this area sucks with apartments. 600 bucks for a one bedroom apartment that's hard to earn on a part timer wage! Plus the hours suck too! I hope to get 4 hours a day! Its not my fault that we barely have any volume when today was close to 180K. I heard that on the radio because i had to wear the radio since there wasn't a sup to take care of my sort ilse! I shouldn't have to do a sup job i should just have to sort! So get off the 705 ass for standing up for themselves!

No one put a gun to your head to take the crappiest job at UPS, you took the crap job and you work 20 hours a week when most work 40. Get a 40 hour a week job! You accepted the wages with the excellent benefits. Most people only take these CRAPPY jobs for the benefits, if you are living off this wage you better up your standards. The honest REASON sups have to work is becuase your union brother (lol) didnt come into work .

I thought a strike is meant to show your disagreement on contractual negotiations and you want to better what is being given to you?

The more and more we play this little game it seems that 705 truly does want to strike no matter what. All the off-handed comments that you guys are saying are just playful and joking around alludes to your true intentions. It's like you are the youngest child that finally got peoples attention and you don't want to lose it.

Denial solves all problems except why you are not full time yet. I'm not sure I can explain to you the complexities of the competitive market when you can't even figure out why you failed a road test.

This is a typical day at ADDILT:

1.) Outbound dock is clean, therefore it must be overstaffed so send someone home.
2.) Another outbound dock blows up with supervisor working, understaffed to begin with
3.) FT sup decides to pull sorter off isle to clean up loads, PT sup starts sorting
4.) By the time the sup can find a working scaner... load for 2 minutes
5.) Sort isle blows up litterally 10 mins later so the spothelp sorter is sent back, sup still working
6.) Flow spike to SD's so belts start going off now the whole wing is melting down
7.) Repeat

I remember one day I was bounced around between 4 different outbounds and the sort isle about 6 or 7 times.

Hey Sup *******, the majority of the labor force at UPS is part-time (25hrs). We work our way up from the bottom based on senority. Getting a full time job can take years. Can you really be this ignorant? No one is going to put a gun to our heads when we decide to go on strike because of how (admittitly) crappy our jobs are.

The real HONEST reason why sups are working, is so they can fudge their productivity numbers to impress their *****master. This is so blantly obvious, but you stups will never admit it.
