Why Part Time?

Why does UPS use so many part timers? What are the cons of having more full timers and less part timers? I believe this is the only Company I know about that does it. Is it to eliminate overtime costs?

Part time = teamster pension
Full-time = UPS pension

No one find that a little suspicious? Why wouldn’t it be the same...

Part time and full time hours are combined in the Western, anybody with time in under the Central will receive two separate pension checks once they retire, one for their part time years which is controlled by UPS, the full time years are under the IBT/UPS created in 2008.

When you retire and turn 65 you will also get a third check from the Central or the PGBC for your years prior to 2008, the IBT/UPS will reduce their obligations accordingly so the entire benefit promised will remain the same.
