Brian Skidmore ~ “The UPS guy” is retiring – Pocahontas Times​​​​

Many folks in the county recognize Brian Skidmore. He’s been delivering UPS packages in Pocahontas County since October 2006.

He estimates that he’s driven more than a million miles for UPS, with his route here taking him from the Slaty Fork Post Office into Marlinton, up to Beard Heights and out to Beaver Creek.

Skidmore is retiring as of November 30, but our last day to see him on the job will be this Friday, November 20.

His replacement has not yet been named.

A federal court in California certified a subclass of UPS employees who claim they were wrongly denied overtime and rest breaks. The subclass includes all employees not provided with accurately itemized wage statements listing all hours worked.

UPS worker killed in accident at Centennial Hub – Louisville Business First

A mechanic at United Parcel Service Inc. was killed in the early morning hours on Wednesday in an accident at Centennial Hub.

Details are limited, but Jim Mayer, public relations manager with UPS, said the employee was a mechanic who repaired sorting equipment at 8100 Air Commerce Drive.

The company issued this statement via Mayer:

“A mechanic working in our Centennial ground hub in Louisville was fatally injured at about 4:30 this morning. This is a tragic situation, and we offer our deepest condolences to the employee’s family at this difficult time. Safety is one of our core values at UPS, and we are working with relevant authorities to determine what happened.”

With encouraging preliminary results from human trials for vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna, pharmaceutical companies, government agencies and logistics giants, including Atlanta-based United Parcel Service Inc. (NYSE: UPS), are preparing to execute a complex distribution plan in the shipping world’s busiest season.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease doctor, said he expects the first COVID-19 vaccinations to begin “towards the latter part of December.
