UPS driver attacked in attempted robbery in Surgoinsville – The Rogersville Review

A UPS driver was attacked on Nov. 3 in Surgoinsville in what appeared to be an attempted robbery.

The attack occurred on around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 on Highway 11-W near the Lone Oak Road intersection.

When Hawkins County Sheriff’s Deputy Ed Rodriguez spoke to the victim, he told Rodriguez that he had been flagged down by two males in a red Chevrolet Cavalier. He initially thought it might have been a customer, so he pulled into the right emergency lane and stopped the UPS truck.

“One male approached the driver’s side of the UPS truck and [the driver] then quickly closed the door,” Rodriguez stated in his report. “The other male walked to the passenger side and began to step inside. [The driver] then made him step off the truck, and that is when the male grabbed [the driver] and pushed him hard against the side of the truck.”

FedEx, UPS Prepare For Holiday Shopping Surge And Potential Delivery Delays – Huffpost

Retailers and carriers are preparing for an online holiday shopping surge that could tax shipping networks and lead to delivery delays.

FedEx and UPS are ramping up their holiday hiring while expanding their weekend operations and asking retailers to use their shipping network when there is more slack. And stores are pushing shoppers to buy early and are expanding services like curbside pickup to minimize the need for delivery.

For the last few years, many retailers had been using their own physical stores, in addition to their distribution centers, to fulfill online orders. But now they are designating some of those stores to handle even higher volumes. Best Buy, for example, converted space in 250 of its 1,000 stores this fall to manage online orders.

United Parcel Service : UPS Lifts Ban on Beards in Diversity Push – Marketscreener

United Parcel Service Inc. is loosening its famously strict guidelines on employee appearance, including lifting a longstanding ban on facial hair and allowing natural Black hairstyles like Afros and braids.

The delivery giant said the changes, which also include eliminating gender-specific rules, are part of an effort to “celebrate diversity rather than corporate restrictions,” according to an announcement on an internal website and documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

UPS, with more than 500,000 workers globally, has a long list of personal appearance guidelines that govern everything from hairstyles (no longer than collar length for men) to the length of shorts (minimally the middle of the thigh and preferably 3 inches above the knee.) Piercings, limited to earrings and small facial ones, must be “businesslike” and tattoos covered up. The rules primarily have applied to employees who do their work out in public, like delivery drivers, and excluded those who sort packages and load trucks.
