BAD NEWS: UPS just threatened to train "new hires" so they don't have to raise wages

Exactly my point for all the years I was there.
UPS has been slowly making way to kick the Union out.
Imagine a UPS where all the drama every 4-5 years vanishes.
No more pension payments, no more premium medical, no more lazy employees (you are fired), no more 50$ hour.
The writing’s been on the wall for awhile.

I couldn't imagine how bad this company would be to work for without a union. It's not good with one.

Just to clarify not sure what my wage was in 1980 but in 1982 starting PT wages were $8/hr unskilled and $9/hr skilled and preload. Several Dollars less then what I was making.
Up to 1982, the starting wage for p/t employees was $11. Then it dropped to $8 starting in 1982. The union wanted to dramatically increase the full time driver’s pay so they agreed to UPS’ demand to lower the p/t pay rate $3 dollars down to $8 from $11

Could be right on the starting wages. I know it took me 90 days to hit top rate working the preload. About $.50/hr less then top rate drivers. The $8/hr or $9/hr if you were working preload was not a huge deal but no one thought it would remain $8/hr for over 30 years.

$8.50 in 1982 is $33 an hour today after inflation

And if you made 33$ an hour your iPhone would cost 3,000$ the average cost of a car would be triple and so on. You wouldn’t be any richer. Too many dollars chasing too few goods. Exactly what’s happening now.
oh noooooo, less consoooooooooooooming

please :censored2: off, the entire society and culture we live in today is total cancer

any argument against raising wages basically comes down to "i support exploitative labor and a child sacrificing aristocracy ruining my life"

Wowee you sound like a brainwashed Harvard lib. That’s high and mighty of you writing that out on a device crafted by slave laborers in China with material mined by child slaves in the Congo. I don’t see you getting off your pedestal to throw it away and buying a responsibly sourced phone.

So the reason gasoline is over $3/gal is because delivery drivers are making over $41/hr? Interesting.
Gas prices are driven by supply and demand like everything else. When gas is cheap OPEC closes the pipe and drive up demand and then the price. Or you have dementia patients like Joe Biden going out there and saying no domestic drilling and no pipelines so investors who would have built those things decide not to, which again affects demand or future demand.

But some PT UPS Union members getting a couple Dollars raise is going to cause runaway inflation?

The current inflation shock we’re going through now is that people were paid to stay home (not producing anything) they were paid more to stay home and everyone was given stimulus checks (increasing the money supply) and the government was passing these huge spending bills (increasing the money supply) thus we had less things on the shelf and less people to perform services but a lot of people with way more money than usually looking to buy goods or services that weren’t available. That increases prices. If everyone was paid more across the board you wouldn’t have more money you would just pay more for everything. You could buy a shotgun in 1950 for probably 40$ at sears and you made 5k a year. Now you make 60k a year and a shotgun costs 500$ It’s the same job and the same product.

So explain how giving some UPS PT Union members a raise is going to cause runaway inflation?

Then go out into the woods and try to make it a month without your rich overlords who produce and invent every single thing you use to live. Mussolini and Hitler were also leftists. Socialism is right there in the name of the German party Hitler was the leader of.

Raising the starting wage by 10$ and giving everyone else catch-up raises is just a couple of dollars? I never said just UPS workers. I said across the board as in for everyone in the country. If you want your raises fine. Don’t expect new hires and expect part time job titles at the company to not exist in the future. Again I point to cashiers and fast food workers being replaced with computers as a prime example of people being replaced with machines for asking for too much money.
