If 89 votes no again, pay attention!

Annoy a liberal today. Hit them with facts.
Absolutely. Our brothers and sisters are fighting for what they believe in. Let them take the fight to the company. It will not just be a win on a settlement but rather a win to show the company they are willing to fight for what they believe in.
Now that the IBT has pulled the rug out from under the members of local 89, they are facing an uphill battle.

They needed that strike authorization to make UPS get serious. Nothing else seems to work as well as a strike authorization in terms of making UPS take negotiations seriously.

All because Hoffa and Hall have no balls for a strike, and don't like Fred.

I was "pulling for, " local 89. Looks like leadership of the local got out maneuvered with the forcing of the passing of the contract today. Happy that it's over but really pissed at the way it was done.

That's messed up to force the contract on those locals. What good is having a union if they don't back the union members? Why are you paying dues? I'm glad my local is strong and would do what the members wanted to do. I truly believe our local here would stand behind our members.

Less than half of the Local 89 voted. However the percentage voted no was over 2/3. That in itself should be strike authorization, no? ARTICLE 12 SECTION 2
2) If less than half of the eligible members cast valid ballots, then a two-thirds (2/3) vote of those voting shall be required to reject such final offer and to authorize a strike. The failure of such membership to reject the final offer and to authorize a strike as herein provided shall require the Local Union Executive Board to accept such final offer or such additional provisions as can be negotiated by it.
When the final offer has been rejected in accordance with this Section, it shall constitute authorization for a strike at such time and under such terms and conditions as the Local Union Executive Board may determine

89 authorized a strike by their last no vote. That just means IBT could have called a strike if they wanted to but didn't have to. IBT did not want a strike so settled things their way.

Why should they be ashamed?

Because they supported this crappy contract.

Because they support the Old Guard that did this to our brothers and sister teamsters in Louisville and PA.

It was wrong.

Looking at it any other way is just selfish. Too many selfish people wanting their 30 pieces of silver retro checks.

The majority of the union supported this, as you say, crappy contract. Should the majority of the union also be ashamed?

(1) If at least one half of the members eligible to vote cast valid ballots then a cumulative majority of those voting in favor of the final offer shall result in acceptance of such offer; and a cumulative majority of those voting against acceptance of the final offer shall authorize a strike without any additional vote being necessary for such strike authorization. A tie vote shall be resolved as provided in Section 1(b)(l) of this Article.

(2) If less than half of the eligible members cast valid ballots, then a two-thirds (2/3) vote of those voting shall be required to reject such final offer and to authorize a strike. The failure of such membership to reject the final offer and to authorize a strike as herein provided shall require the negotiating committee to accept such final offer or such additional provisions as can be negotiated by it.

3025 total votes. 2/3 is 2027 - 185 yes vote = 1842 which is less than 2/3. That is how they did it.

Bad math. You don't subtract the no votes from the yes votes. They needed 2/3 or 66% of the total voters to vote yes. 94% of the voters voted yes. But this didn't come into play anyway because the international used the IBT constitution to override the no voters in Philly, Western PA, and Louisville. Whether what the IBT did was constitutional or fair is what's up for debate. Seems like some agree and some are going to challenge the decision. Will be interesting.
