Spoken like a classic boomer. That's not how it works now. Pull your head out of the sand and look around. Blue collar workers starting today have no retirement to look forward to regardless of how hard they work. The productivity gains all go to the top executives not the workforce.

He worships his oppressors, the very definition of ignorant. And yes, your reward for hard work at FedEx is more hard work, not money. Just ask van.

Real estate and rental properties. And, no, I won't rent to you. You'll stink up my rental house.
Houses and hotels in Monopoly don't count. Another fantasy in your demented world. The business world is not for you. Negativity and hate will not go over well in business. It does make you a hero to the miserables and that is important to you. Being alone in life is about all you can look forward to. And the morons in here that think you have all the answers.

And YOUR answer over and over is I got mine so that should be good enough for you. And you're a hater if you aren't happy with that.

It's pretty obvious that you're the one who thinks he has all the answers. Because obviously your particular situation is fact across the board, at FedEx. Everyone got a pension and everyone has been topped out forever.

Oh, wait. That only happened through hard work. Never has there been an employee who has worked harder than oldfart, ergo, he is the only person who deserves what he has. Screw the rest of you whiners.

The idea was that you could pay lower wages in the present by deferring compensation for a couple of decades. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but history has shown us that it isn't a smart idea to continually saddle yourself with long-term obligations.
Or in FedEx's case pay lower wages in the present then screw'em on the promised retirement in the future. FedEx corrected course in 2003, but should've kept their word on those that worked all those years with a reasonable expectation that the traditional pension would be there for them. That pension wasn't anything close to what UPS drivers get so it really drives home what our corporate leadership thinks of our worth with the suppressed pay and stripped benefits. They're laughing all the way to the bank.

Everyone had the same opportunities to get ahead. I took a chance about 40 years ago to work for a company that wasn't well known and made the best of it. I actually quit UPS to work at Fedex. I was some kind of clerk calling Not In 3, getting directions and washing drivers pants. I guess like a CSA. I decided to give Fedex a chance and made the best of it. I don't apologize for what I have accumulated and don't make it my business what my coworkers make or what they have saved. I know people that make twice what I make in their jobs and don't have any kind of financial stability. I also know people that make 2/3 what I make and have managed to live the good life. Whining and complaining about life will get you no where. Make the best of what you have and dont live your life full of hatred and negativity.

Then where does the money go?

The only reason SS is ready to go under is because they "borrowed" so much against it.

Another huge problem
Is how conservative they have to invest.
Social Security isn't ready to go under. There may come a day that it'll pay less if they don't shore it up but it still will be taken out of paychecks and matched by employers. The ones squawking loudest about SS are the employers who don't want to match contributions.

Oh I'm sorry it'll just become a full fledged Ponzi scheme at that point.

Social Security is an insurance program, not an investment program. For too many people it'll be all they have because they never made enough to have other options. You can rail all day against those poor people but they are a fact of life and there are more and more in this economy. If a person works all their life making another wealthy while they get little the least the employer can do is contribute to their retirement.

Wow, you just don't get it, do you?

The opportunities that existed when you were younger simply are no longer there. You walked into an entry level position (and don't kid yourself, courier for FedEx is an entry level position) and automatically got a company funded pension and reached top of range in under two years. That is unheard of today.

Kids are graduation university, having to work 2 or 3 part time jobs because jobs that were available when you were a kid, have been moved overseas. You saw the greatest period of prosperity in HISTORY.

The sentence you say you don't make it your business to know what your coworkers make, is that really because you don't make it your business or because you simply don't care? In my past dealings with coworkers such as yourself, every time it's the latter.

I have no problem with the employer contributing to their retirement. But why are we willing to give it to the government? They already owe us almost 3 trillion dollars that they "borrowed"

Do you really believe employers would simply contribute that $ to their employees retirement funds? If you believe that, I got some beach front property to sell you.

Hey it's a government program. I'm not thrilled with their spending either but if you take away SS you screw 10's of millions who really need it and won't be able to replace it. I'd like to see all income taxed and means testing. What I'd really like to see is the Fair Tax implemented.

It's pretty simple just make the law that the money goes into an individual account instead of to the government. That'll never happen though. For the same reason the union wants the pension money. They want control of that money.

Nothing is that simple. If you eliminate union pensions you eliminate unions. It's a domino effect after that and every pro worker law for the past 100 years is up for grabs after that. People want security and pensions provide that security for union workers.
