We have trucks down for a couple of days because of burned out headlights, a 15 minute repair if our mechanic could carry a couple of extra. Instead, we go get rentals until the headlights cone in. Pure effing insanity!

My truck was out of service for two days because they didn't have any wipers to replace the one that broke. Because we only have three of that model of truck, mechanic said he can keep no spares in stock.

It's pretty ingenious the system we have for getting all this freight from one place to another so quickly no matter what point a and point b are. We have such a great foundation in place that the whole operation can be run by a legion of morons and the job still gets done. It just requires a little bit of creativity to still get your job despite all the good ideas that leadership has...

Can't be carrying that very expensive inventory.

... and what about cutting off uniform orders near the end of the quarter, just to make the numbers look good. ( good until the beginning of the next quarter )

The job does get done yes but with substandard service all thanks to poor leadership.

Yes!! Great one. I think they do the same thing with office supplies too. You know, copy paper, toilet tissue etc. Anything to make the budget look better.

One of my newer coworkers does an outer area route on Saturday. Management couldn't figure out why it was taking him so long to finish. The first time I worked and helped him, it was immediately apparent..... Too many stops, too spread out. With Saturday hours cut back, he gets no help. So, what he's doing now is delivering to a point, coding packages as bad address and bringing them back. The new Fedex......

Another creative move from our falsification specialists, managers.

At my station we have maybe 30 couriers who take toll roads to get to their routes. Because someone didn't pay the bill, they now have to either use their own money (and hope to get reimbursed) or take the more time consuming way to their routes.

We get written up for ANY failings on our part. Why doesn't management?

Annnnd the late messages are already coming across because of it. LMAO!

They cannot be required to and should not use their own money. There is no cash on-board trucks. The only way to take is the more time consuming way.

That's what I'm doing. No one is REQUIRED to, but you don't always know the transponder isnt working until you're at the toll booth.

I had one time where I had a delivery for a medical centre that had a toll parking lot. There were lots of times I went there where the front of the parking lot, the part you could see from the road, was empty but all the staff parked behind the building.

On this particular occasion, the office was closed and I pulled in, thinking they just didn't have any patients at that point in the day. Called my manager to send someone out with the $4 fee because I refused to pay for it. I have heard of too many people, some in my own station that have to fight tooth and nail to get reimbursed.

OK. You need to get in touch with your State Labor Board or equivalent immediately and report this. If FedEx can't pay it's bills...NOT YOUR PROBLEM. Nor, should anyone be forced to bring (and pay-out) personal funds for a clearly business-related expense. Tell management (in advance) that you are not paying a toll out of your pocket and that they can provide petty cash or a FedEx credit card for the fees. I doubt that FedEx would have any recourse if you refused to pay the toll or just sat outside the toll area waiting for a manager to come and pay it for you. In fact, that's probably what you should do. Come to work with just your DL and Medical card if you're DOT, and your lunch. Then, refuse to pay the toll, OR take the long alternative route you mentioned. I don't know if all of your couriers have this option.

I do know of a local RTD who refused to pay the toll on a bridge out of his own pocket and that he parked it until a manager came out and took care of it. 5 AMJs of P1, just sitting there for 90 minutes. Glorious.

You should already know that management is held to a much lower standard than you are, and that they regularly lie to cover-up their misdeeds, failures, and general incompetence.

AND, as someone else recently said on here. NEVER, EVER TRUST MANAGEMENT. They can, and will, toss you immediately under the bus to save their own skin(s), regardless of how great an employee you are or despite any friendships. Seen it happen many times.
