Foundation Adrift: The Aimlessness of the Annie E. Casey Foundation – Capital Research Center

Summary: The Annie E. Casey Foundation influences much about how American policymakers think about child welfare. However, the policies promoted by the foundation leave many friends and colleagues of founder James E. Casey scratching their heads, wondering if the humble businessman would approve of the work his legacy now supports. The failed fight to bar UPS from serving all of Ontario – CBC

In 1980, the U.S. parcel delivery company got provincial licence that its competitors opposed

The Canadian post office and its package-delivering peers feared having to compete with the United Parcel Service.

So much so, that they spent years opposing the bid by the giant U.S. delivery company — which delivered more packages than the U.S. Post Office — to get a licence to operate in an expanded manner across Ontario.

They lost that fight, but not their outrage over seeing UPS trucks making deliveries throughout the province.

“Their supporters say UPS is only interested in the profitable, business-oriented delivery market and that it will unfairly undercut the competition to get it,” the CBC’s Michael Vaughan told viewers on The National on Oct. 28, 1980.

UPS  and Amazon are frenemies and their codependence means they just can’t seem to break up with one another. So, what does that mean for the future of their relationship?

“Amazon is a customer of ours. We have a mutually beneficial relationship. We also see them as somewhat of a competitor,” said David Abney, UPS chairman and CEO. “So we watch them just like we would anyone else.”

In an interview with Yahoo Finance’s On The Move, Abney said the company is “leaning in” to e-commerce and explained how its relationship with Amazon is not a “zero-sum” game.
