I talked to HR after the sort today, and it sounds like I can give proper notice and keep positive rehire status

That is the first step. The second would be to discuss your intentions with this same HR rep and ask him/her if they would be willing to coordinate with the HR at your new location so that you can start working there with minimal delay.
