Fired! From UPS: Stories About Employees Losing Their Job

UPS Vacation
At local union meeting. (Not at our building, I don't believe) dudes said drivers who worked late often would leave their DIAD in truck or on counter and call the PT sup to punch them out. They'd get an extra 25-35 minutes OT every 2-3 weeks.

I never did this. Yet, did get me to thinking how could L.P. prove it wasn't an accidental mistake.

I was suspended for 3-days for taking my 30-minute lunch in the package compartment oven and clocked in and out right on the dot and my first stop after a stretching was a deli and they asked if I wanted a milkshake and I looked at the truck and said yes please.... took it to go but took them 8-minutes to make it. What I didn't know is I was being watched for productivity and the warning letter coined it as "theft"... "stealing time"

The delicatessen has a daily pickup up and found out about it and later cancelled the pickup and went FedEx Ground! (I thought about lying and saying I was helping them with a shipment for later but they didn't have anything going out that day)

As I see UPS stock go from $100 in May to $155 in August. I think back on it and it just chaps my hide!!!

To make matters worse. About a month later the on car and maybe even center manager stopped by to try to get the pickup back but didn't go talk to the owners. They talked to a high school kid getting ready to go in and he said fair enough things about me but said he'd like me to come later... so the bosses had a big PCM about how we're losing accounts by you drivers not being "flexible" and we're showing up too early... I tell ya, I was on road that day and burning up thinking about it and came out of the passenger side with package and the arm of my shirt got caught on the door handle and I dropped the package, DIAD and hung there like a scarecrow... I was hot enough to friend!!!!!

Thanks Rod. appreciate it. Ya, I think you hit it on the head . harassment technique. never understood that and they wondered why most of us didnt have respect for management. they didnt like that we made more money than them I guess and we didnt have to take the verbal abuse that they took in closed management sessions.

very few really good managers ever stayed very long. in our hub a manager had to be a total jerk to make it thru the ranks. the good guys would crack , go out on stress leave for months and then come back and be treated worse until they cracked again and quit. they really do eat their own.
I like a couple managers. one of them was brand new when I started in feeder and by the time i retired he was center manager, center manager. he asked me to stay on longer to help mentor new feeder drivers but I had already made up my mind to retire.

like mentioned here before I think more managers got fired than hourlies. usually for adjusting time cards or playing with numbers. a couple got fired for watching porn on the company computers . usually they were forced to quit due to the psychological bs their higher ups put them thru. I never could understand why anyone would go from hourlie to management . must be the power trip.
Maybe they didn't want to chuck packages for the next 30 years and move up in the company
