Government shut DOWN

You mean loopholes designed to assist business so that they can employ more people? Sure there's problems, but the biggest budget problem is entitlement spending and the interest on the debt to pay for it.

Uh, no. I earned my "entitlements" like Social Security and Medicare. You and Sniper can give yours up if you'd like.

There are earned entitlements and unearned. Social Security is a pay-as-you-go earned entitlement that isn't in real trouble yet and can be saved with some adjustments. It's the unearned things like food stamps, Obamacare, etc that's breaking the bank. The CBO is now projecting Obamacare will cost $1.7 Trillon over the next 10 years when Obama said it would cost about half of that. Not even out of the gate yet and has huge cost overruns. The interest on the debt alone is now over 30% of the Federal budget. Why don't you give up the unearned stuff so we can keep Social Security and Medicare?

So, Medicare and Social Security aren't entitlements at all. Why do you insist on calling them that? And why are Republicans killing our economy? The shutdown has tanked the stock market, and the budget ceiling malarkey has the potential for much worse problems. The big issue for Republicans is that they live in a world defined by their corporate masters. McConnell and Boehner take their marching orders from Big Business, and then FOX spreads the disinformation to the masses, who eat it up, even if it is nonsense. It's a very effective propaganda machine.

The best part is that the GOP is committing suicide here. Polls show that the blame for the shutdown is placed overwhelmingly on the GOP. If they do the debt ceiling dance, their numbers will plummet even further. Keep up the good work of killing our country.

Good luck with that in 2016.

Actually this is going to kill the Tea Party and spark a huge recovery. Boehner is going to be the hero and strike the "Grand Bargain" he has always wanted. Moderate Republicans and their business friends will find a new coalition with similarly minded Democrats to continually marginalize the Tea Party fanatics.

If you are entitled to something it's an entitlement. The difference is earned or unearned. And the shutdown isn't killing the economy or the stock market. And the Repubs are putting forth spending bills for specific things such as veterans benefits. Obama says he will veto them all. Boehner pointed out today that the Federal gov't has more revenue than any time in it's history and yet they are spending $800 billion more than they are taking in. And that's before Obamacare kicks in. Yeah, FOX talking points. Also known as the truth, and you can't handle the truth because it might mean lowered expectations for all of us instead of spending like crazy.

Obama has spent enough but it's what he's attempting to do that will push us over the cliff.

Good right? We need them all to **** up so bad that we can get off our asses and actually clean house, no? Or is this just another prediction of "over the cliff?", sort of like TV guy says Jesus is coming because the world is friend'd up, see! SEE!!

Without the Repubs controlling the House Obama would push forward with plans to get us off fossil fuel, pushing gas and electric prices through the roof. Is that speculation or FOX talking points? No, saw Obama talk about this in an interview in 2008 before the election. Said electric rates would skyrocket. Y'all are upset with FedEx, and rightfully so. Think what your job would be if FedEx had to pay for $6 gas. Or more. And there is no viable alternative in sight.

I think all of US would be better off if we randomly picked our congress critters out of the phone book, let them serve max 2 terms then get someone else. We all know that will never happen because too much money is involved.

Surely it wouldn't be any worse for what we have had the last 25 years or so. That's my "happy thought" for the weekend.

My bad, the CBO is now projecting Obamacare will cost $2.8 trillion over the next 10 years, not $1.7 trillion.

Especially when you consider the amount spent in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hmm , I wonder who started those wars?

Obama did!! Remember, he's actually a Muslim. Hannity said it, and then O'Reilly confirmed it! Rush saw him reading a Koran and wiping his ass with the US flag while he was at a mosque in Kenya. Or was that when he was the only black guy at that Fourth Reich rally?

We work for a corporation that is self-insured. This year our employer is increasing premiums, increasing deductibles, increasing out of pocket maximums and converting over to a consumer driven healthcare plan. The result is that the employees will have to pay a larger portion of healthcare costs throughout the year coupled with higher premiums. We have also previously lost the employee/spouse coverage option and are forced to use the employee/family option (which is more expensive) even if we don't have any children. The Affordable Care Act is being used by corporations to increase the employee's cost for healthcare while reducing or limiting the amount of coverage in order to keep its plan below Cadillac Plan status. This law is nothing more than a handout to insurance companies, a bailout for big corporations and a Mandated Tax on every American citizen. This law has done NOTHING to address the real problem with healthcare which is the COST. The Affordable Care Act is yet another transfer of wealth from the American citizens to the large corporations, insurance companies and large multi-national BANKS that lobbied for it. Just FOLLOW THE MONEY...When the smoke clears and the citizens realize what is really going on they can have all of their questions answered by visiting WWW.HEALTHCARE.GOV or using the phone number provided on that website. As I, (and others) have said, if Obamacare is so bad, why don't the Republicans just let it fail and then reap the rewards at the ballot box in 2016? If there's a dollar to be made by reaming-out the middle class, the GOP would be right there with their hands out. Let the Commie plan fail, and then you can elect Governor Fat-Ass from NJ to be President in 2016 with a whopping majority AND also take back the Senate. No, can't have that, can we? The GOP is Big Business all the way, and that includes the insurance industry.

You got everything right except the part where Obamacare is the cause. Actually it is the excuse given by corporations such as FedEx to extract more profit from its workers. Just look at the UPS plan and you will see the difference between having union representation to protect and improve benefits vs having an employer with all the power to reduce health benefits to increase profits at the employees expense. The law may not be perfect but it gives the opportunity for millions of people to be proactive about their health and out of the emergency rooms for minor illnesses and injuries. Like it or not it's what this country needs.
