Seems to me that impeachment became a losing proposition for Democrats the moment 3 proposed impeachment charges were whittled down to 2 and neither one of those were for bribery.

The charge of “ignoring and injuring” the national interest is weak sauce. That happens all the time and elections are the remedy. That’s not a high crime or misdemeanor.

The House should have just censured him and suggested he was incompetent/an idiot/etc.

I don't. But the Democrats aren't proving that Trump is a liar or a thief. I can think Trump was bribing the Ukrainians for sure. But that's apparently not enough proof for a bribery charge. And when this goes poorly for Democrats in the Senate, the hammer will probably come down on them.
