I am ONLY comparing ourselves to UPS. Fedex has always compared us with either UPS, DHL or Airborne Express.

Are you referring to your job at Fedex, that it's below you? This is what I see. I have a very good friend who's family picked crops for a living. They lived in field houses supplied by the Migrant managers. This Hispanic family managed to put 3 boy's in college one works for Fedex. He came from humble beginnings but has pride in himself and his family, and is very very proud of them....Please get off your High Horse.

You are over thinking the whole thing really. Kudos to your friend. I was referring to me as a "worker" and migrant being the action I take in my truck to go to where the work is...(bulk stops, sweeps, pick ups, airport runs, the sort).

Matter of fact the FAA guy was at my station Tuesday. Everyone including the managers were walking on egg shells. I bet, they fine heavily and love cashing in on mistakes and or ignorance.

Airborne doesn't exist anymore, DHL only has international operations and Ground, well we all know what and why they are compensated the way they are. You might as well compare us to the local flower delivery, auto parts delivery or pizza del. You could even compare us to the guys driving around in a econoline dropping of phone books at your doorstep. I'm sorry the only one at this time that truly compares is UPS. And most of us are not asking for exactly what they get. But every year that gap gets larger and larger. There is no justification for this.

90$ a week fuel stipend. 1,500 gross. Married so after taxes a week 1,150. He only uses himself, no other drivers. Truck payment/insurance etc. 500$ ball park number. He said guys have sprinters for as low as $299 a month or box trucks like him for $449. It's the Northeast not Wyoming so insurance is a little higher. So all in all 35 hours on average for a 6-650$ a week take home. And mind you again, it's a bulk stop.

If someone purchases a route for 30k and they have to replace a motor for 8k and rent a van while its in shop for another 1000 they lose 9k in their first year contracting?

It is. They are some of the highest paid in the industry.

Proddriver, I am not here to pander to your math equations man. I would say a route for 30k is unheard of. As I am told they are at least three times that. And too bad for the guy who took the hit on the truck. The guy I know bought new. But not unheard of to have a back up vehicle. Instead of having to rent. Great contingency plan!
