Had a lucky charm with us on our Sleeper run from Los Angeles to Brooklyn, Iowa.
You get to keep it?
Can they pinpoint where you are live on GPS when on road? I know they estimate the time between hubs and such but can they pull you up live and see exactly where you are ?
Yes. They have a big screen up in dispatch that shows everyone's current location. Can they pinpoint where you are live on GPS when on road? I know they estimate the time between hubs and such but can they pull you up live and see exactly where you are ?
They can do it in package, I'd assume they can do it in feeder also.
One of our feeder drivers hit and killed a suicider years before I got in, oddly enough it was on I-95 southbound.Truck strikes, kills pedestrian on I-95 in Beltsville | WTOP
Article doesn't give a whole lot of info, from what I'm hearing this person jumped off the overpass and landed on top of our trailer and it's being investigated as a suicide.
That's a great dispatcher. Not sure ours would even know how to do that. They can do it in feeder.
I had to take a detour out in rural area. I called my dispatcher and he led me through the countryside, called the names of the streets before I got to them.
There's a long list of drivers I'd call before I ask dispatch for directions. That's a great dispatcher. Not sure ours would even know how to do that.

Totally agree. A detour got me one time in a city environment and I called for directions. He kept saying "well I think this....or that road" . My response was "you tell me where you want me to go". I put it on him .Besides...if something gets screwed up it's the dispatcher's fault.
I agree, I'm on the phone with most of them half the night anyways. There's a long list of drivers I'd call before I ask dispatch for directions.
Maybe not, but everywhere we can possibly be sent to there is someone I know who has been detoured around every exit. Not when you're in scenic, countryside, Podunk America on your way back from an even more Podunk extended center.
Besides...if something gets screwed up it's the dispatcher's fault.
One of the best pieces of advice I got when I was in training was ask the senior drivers about anything you're not sure of, 9 times out of 10 they'll give you a better answer than whoever is answering the phone in dispatch.Maybe not, but everywhere we can possibly be sent to there is someone I know who has been detoured around every exit.
Same here. Sound advice too.One of the best pieces of advice I got when I was in training was ask the senior drivers about anything you're not sure of, 9 times out of 10 they'll give you a better answer than whoever is answering the phone in dispatch.
