GROUND IS TAKING OVER EXPRESS

The inescapable reality facing Express employees is that ground contractors are not your pals. They are your adversary. For many years they stayed in their market while you stayed in yours. Ground has breached that defensive perimeter and is now in your market. ISP/CSP contractors are like locusts. They come in devour what's there and move on.

By and large, they're getting some of the work that isn't profitable for us. The Express network isn't built for, and isn't designed to profit under, a large volume of cheap e-commerce shipments. If we can sub those out at a profit, or at a greater profit than we had doing it ourselves, fine by me.

I agree. It’s not the end of the world. Express needs a overhaul and better management.

The Ground announcement looks like a ploy to pump the stock so fast Freddy can dump his shares. Mgt has no plan how to implement this changeover. Follow Fred’s lead and dump whatever stock you have left. A short burst now but more pain down the road when Wall Street figures out there is no plan.

The stock has had a nice run up on the last week or so.

I thought the same thing. It’s too much for ground to handle and will absolutely blow up the company at Xmas.
If a majority of freight did leave and a lot of express drivers were forced part time. There’s no way we’re bailing out ground if that’s what their thinking at peak

It's being implemented slowly over the next 6-12 months and initially with intra-market freight. Freight can be retained by Express whenever and wherever there's a possible issue with Ground.

It's as if the people who put this together are a step or two ahead of the message board CEOs.

If they were truly a step ahead they wouldn't be trying to catch up to Amazon.

This makes no sense. They only transport their own product. They don't run a pickup operation. We don't sell toothbrushes and toilet paper. FedEx and Amazon are apples and oranges. It's like expecting the Lakers to compete with the Patriots.

It makes no sense yet Fred is quoted as we will be lapping Amazon this year.

FedEx has no control over what Amazon does. It's just a new wrinkle in the marketplace that the company has to adjust to. Wasn't long ago that analysts on CNBC were saying you can't duplicate what FedEx has done and that with the advent of e-commerce the future was super bright for FedEx stock. Now the single biggest entity in e-commerce decided to control it's shipping costs handling it themselves. If FedEx was still handling all that Amazon freight most likely they would be trying to keep a huge customer happy by using Express to do it. Take it away, and that revenue, and FedEx's e-commerce future has to be reconfigured.

I’m looking forward to your posts in the near future. I’m betting they wont be so positive.
Oh he'll be crying that:

his "not so bright" drivers can't keep up with the volume.
he's not making the money he should off of junk Express packages.
there's far less time these days to lay around and play video games while his grunts do all the hard work.
all of a sudden he has a big jump in unexpected turnover.
Pittsburgh has threatened to cancel his contract.

Pick one or more.

They haven't just been able to control their shipping costs. They are now a logistics company as well. Not a wrinkle, Van. That's why FedEx made this desperation move.

Moving their own freight though. They're a long way from having hubs and ramps and pickup service.

Amazon is the supplier, and now carrier of the majority of e-commerce. Ttku....

Look how long it took them to develop the network they have now. The speed of light compared to FedEx.
But isn't everything being run through their distribution centers? They can get away with a lot service wise by offering "free" delivery which most customers will gladly accept. In that sense they certainly aren't the same as FedEx. FedEx just can't offer free delivery. But Amazon isn't offering pickup service for businesses or residences. So an entirely different operation.

They just dropped one of they’re biggest delivery contractors. What are you talking about. They’re pilots are ready to walk too.
One of the biggest hits they’ll take is starting to pay taxes.
They’re not close to being stable
